What are you currently reloading?

Tell us about it. I’m kinda intrigued. What kinda speed are you getting out of it? Is the juice worth the squeeze?
I don’t know a damn thing about it.
I'm really just getting started with it. I got 104 pieces of brass with beat to hell case mouths. I straightened them out by hand, wet tumble, anneal, run through a 308 die, anneal, run through a 338fed die, dry tumble, trim, C&D, then prime and load. On the range trip, a I shot 40 rounds of factory Federal 200s, they shot really well, and were 2600 on the nose out of a 16" Sa**ge. In the same trip, I shot 100 rounds of the hybrid brass and blem 215sgk with 60 loaded in ladders with 6 different powders and 40 with a mid-book load of Varget. With everything formed for sure now, I wet tumbled again, anneal, shoulder bump, trim, C&D, dry tumble, and load a couple more ladders and projectiles. These were 175hh, 185ttsx, 190hht.

The 175 could really be a speed demon, its way short and leaves a ton of room for more powder. The 185 is long without the benefit of an awesome BC. The 190 shows some real promise, its long, but can also be seated pretty long, and it shot a 1" group with 1.5gr variance in the three shots. These loads were just over book loads with pretty standard powders, I just picked ones that weren't already compressed at max. Last night, I loaded a few more ladders with one of the last powders, and with a new powder that I have high hopes for. Max so far is 2708 for the 175, 2743 for the 185, and 2648 for the 190, I think that powder and the 185 was into pressure, so I'm not going to push that one any further. I'm hoping to get to the range today for the new strings.

There are guys doing this with 8.6blk, and I love that cartridge for subs, and I hate it when people say we should just use 338fed for subs. If I'm going to carry around a short action gun with 338 supers in it, I want the extra case capacity, and I think it could be a cool application for the hybrid cases.

Dang!
That’s a lot of work but it sounds like a cool project. That’s pretty impressive.

What pressure are you getting? What action do you have.
No clue on the pressure, 100% its too much, it's just a Savage 110, so I'm not going too nuts. The new powder was underwhelming, and the 185s confirmed as not great for this application. I think I've reached max velocity with any reasonable powder in this barrel length. I think the next thing will be to try heavier projectiles and see if maybe similar velocities can be reached. I think that might be where the hybrid brass shines in 338, heavier projectiles in short barrels at similar velocities to the lighter stuff in longer barrels. One interesting thing is how quiet it is suppressed, it doesn't even turn off the mic on my electronic earmuffs.

Might be an HBC coming in .338. mtmuley

I have some 220hhts and some 225etips I'm going to take a look at. I come at most everything reloading from a hunting perspective, and since I've decided to only hunt with monos I'm definitely limiting myself. I might pick up a different cup and core projectile just for testing. Even if it come out pretty good, I'm pretty sure this will just be an academic exercise, I'm going to stick with the 33nos @p_ham is putting together for me for my supersonic 338 needs.
