West coast salmon recovery

that is ridiculously better than any other dam removal I can think so. Neither the Elwah nor White Salmon were anywhere near that so quickly.

I haven't watched the video, so it may be addressed there, but if I don't respond now I'll forget.

The former Iron Gate dam had a hatchery facility there. I wonder if that is contributing?

And while the Klamath fish numbers have absolutely been declining, it was still supporting some decent runs. I think it was 2012 that my uncle and I had a 50 steelhead day.

Would that be adult steelhead or the half-pounders?

Few half pounders. Many 1-2 pounders. If I recall correctly the one in the photo was like 3.5 or 3.75 lbs and was the biggest of the day for us.

But I've never known the middle Klamath to produce fish much bigger than that. Likely more accurately, I don't know how to catch them.

Yeah that one in the photo is a nice one. The half pounder phenomena is a pretty interesting life history

Pay close attention if you were planning to fish kings in Alaska this year. Bunch of emergency closures just hit due to lack-o-fish.
Yep, never thought 20; 30;40 even back 60 years it would ever get this bad. A rough look at The E/Os looks like everything on the road system from the Susitna down the Kenai Peninsula will be closed for kings. The orders I looked at even closed C&R fishing.

Pinks give me the creeps. They have a really high amount of enzymes in them and they turn to goo if they are not processed quickly. When I was buying fish we would get boats delivering that had held pinks too long and they would be like jello oozing out of the brailler bags. They are best used as river fertilizer in my mind. When I have eaten them fresh, usually caught in salt water , I’d gut them immediately and they weren’t too bad. To me they taste like a trout and don’t hold a candle to the rest of the salmon. But opportunity is opportunity when that’s all there is! Gut ‘em quick!

That was my take too, like a giant rainbow trout
