Some of you have already seen this press release in the Outdoor Wire. Most have seen the banner ads for Howa now rotating on the site.
It has been a discussion since last fall, when Andy called me from his deer hunt in South Dakota. He had watched an episode and wanted to be in our show. He was doing a deer hunt just like our kind of hunts, and wanted to reach more On Your Own hunters. He said he was sending me rifles and that after I shot them, I would want to use them in the show.
Sounded good. I had shot most every other rifle known to man as part of this project.
I talked to a lot of varmit guys who shoot Howas. They raved about them. I did not realize how much of the varmit market Howa owns.
I spent a lot of time talking to guys who have built rifles off the Howa 1500 barreled actions. They love them.
Wait a second ...... these are some of the most reasonably priced rifles made, why have I not heard about them as being so accurate? Probably because I hadn't done much asking or much research.
We did a lot of talking at SHOT and Elk Camp. I got to shoot some of these and he was right, I was impressed. Great trigger adjustments, smooth actions, and from all my tests and talking with guys who shoot more rifles than I do, accuracy was excellent. All results pointed to what Andy had promised - these are rifles I would like to shoot for our show.
With that, I am happy to tell you that Howa rifles, and their companion shotgun company, Escort Shotguns, will be the official rifles and shotguns of On Your Own Adventures.
I have been shooting them all spring. So far, they are way better than I am, which might not be a high bar to clear. We are getting more of them ready for the hunts this fall. I will continue to shoot them over the summer and will provide feedback. We will be helping them with feedback on features and ideas that work for the serious big game hunter.
We are building a 7mm-.08 for the wolf hunt(s) we will do this fall. I am excited to get that one and shoot it. Will also add a .270 to the arsenal, and probably something in one of the varmit calibers.
To make sure you guys get a chance to see what they are like, Andy wants us to have a drawing for the Hunt Talkers, where the winner gets their choice of any Howa rifle or Escort Shotgun. And if you are a rifle nut and want to build your own, you could exchange one of those for a barreled action.
Thanks to Andy, Gene, and Rick at Howa. They have been great to work with and they are committed to being the rifle of the On Your Own hunter, the same as they have become the rifle of choice among varmit hunters.
Welcome Howa.

Howa Signs on as Sponsor of Federal Premium's On Your Own Adventures
MISSOULA, MT-Warm Springs Production today announced that Howa rifles has signed on as a sponsor of their Federal Premium's On Your Own Adventures television series.
"Howa rifles is one of the premier firearms companies in the hunting industry," said Marc Pierce, Managing Partner of Warm Springs Productions. "We're thrilled to have such a terrific partner on board to help us continue the success of this highly entertaining television series and of Randy Newberg's On Your Own message."
Federal Premium's On Your Own Adventures features hunting adventures and tips for the non-guided, public and accessible land hunter. The series will be debuting on Sportsman Channel in July 2011.
"Our hunts are some of the most difficult hunts to be found - mostly all western backpack hunts," said Randy Newberg, Host of Federal Premium's On Your Own Adventures. "We need a deadly accurate rifle that can withstand the demands our hunts impose. Howa rifles meet our demands for precision and durability, and they are committed to serving the needs of our audience - the On Your Own hunter. We are extremely excited to show our audience the accuracy and quality of Howa rifles."
"We here at Legacy Sports International are very excited to be signed on with On Your Own Adventures with Randy Newberg. Adding him to our already fine lineup on the Sportsman Channel has just strengthened the Legacy Team," added Andy McCormick, VP of Sales & Marketing at Legacy Sports International, the parent company of Howa rifles. "We are all fans of Randy's public land theme and are very proud to be the exclusive firearms sponsor of the show that emulates what most of us Americans are ... On Your Own Hunters! We are looking forward to seeing Randy put the Howa 1500 rifles to the test far and wide and introducing his quarry to the Howa Handshake."
Founded in 2008, the crew at Warm Springs Productions has more than 30 years of combined experience hosting, filming and producing hunting, fishing and outdoor adventure television. The company currently produces a total of eight series for both Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel.
