Weatherby 307 - anyone tried one yet?

Does the longer jump to the lands yield a decrease in accuracy? Or is there no effect at all? Thanks
Yes and no. Like many other factors on accuracy, it can lead to less or have no effect. Really depends on the diameter of the throat, the leade, and whether the bullet is entering the rifling straight or not. There are some great shooting WBYs out there.
Generally you would want less just so it's not a factor, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Especially in a hunting rifle. It would not be a reason for me to avoid a WBY chambering.

You do have to be careful on custom rifles in WBY rounds though. Some people have them chambered without the freebore which is fine if reloading but you would not want to fire factory rounds in those chambers.

Wow. Great info, glad I’m reading this. Nobody wants to buy that one! Makes me think twice about some customs especially if they’re used.

I nearly pulled the trigger on one of these actions, but after I did the math, the combined weight and combined cost was both more than I wanted. I'm sure it's a great action, but I'd snag a Bergara barreled action before I'd go the 307 route. Some of their barreled actions are very nice.

Take it to the range and see how you like it. One thing I can tell you is a 300 WBY is about as good as it gets for big game hunting and is one damn fine round. I definitely wouldn't be selling it! The only thing is they're known for recoil but it's not unmanageable if you're only using it as a hunting rifle.

I have one in 300WM. Accuracy is nice, and Weatherby quality while still having access to all the R700 aftermarket is nice. It is a heavy pig so eat your Wheaties if you're gonna be carrying it around the bush.

Everybody with their panties in a bunch about Weatherby making an R700 clone is pretty hilarious. You either adapt to the market or fail, that's business 101.

Where does one get a Bergara barreled action?
