Wakesurfing article - Good to see some headway on this

Well now it's time for serious action. I'm headed to big green to help search for the likely remains of a kayaker that was swamped by a wave boater. 911 was called because a witness saw a wake boater that they believed caused a kayaker to capsized and was calling for help. The kayak was retrieved but no human and now it's all hands on deck to see what we can do.

$*)Q!#@$ wake boaters...
Search is suspended until the am. Looks like a whole bunch more divers coming in the morning with all efforts focused on the bottom. :(
Update on this - I (along with everyone else that helped search) was completely fooled and was wrong. The report of a kayaker in distress was a hoax. Completely unbelievable what is unfolding here. Straight out of a movie drama type stuff.

Wow.

Cheers to you, Mr. Borgwardt, for bringing focus on the dangers for small craft on our inland lakes. Sure, we all now know you’re a shit human for running out on your family and wasting $100,000 or so in public resources. Yet the thought was put out there that you could have been drowned by a party of obnoxious disruptive wakeboarders. Infamy will always mark your name, but the focus on troublesome wakeboarding endangering kayaks remains.

I'm not defending the guy one way or another but if a fella is taking that kind of effort to get away from whatever he's in now, there's more than one side to the story.

I'm dying to know the end of this story and what that story is!

Exactly what is the reasonable second side of a story involving abandoning your family, faking your death and taking all your money with you to chase an east bloc internet bride?

What's crazy is I always thought this would be the best way to actually kill yourself and make it look like an accident. It would suck to force yourself to die of hypothermia in cold ass lake, but your family could just go on believing it was an accident instead of suicide. Anyways, that my dark thought for the day.

I am sure this is just a snarky internet post, but as a member of a family that has been touched by suicide I must do the "dad post" in response.

If you do in fact think of ways to commit suicide in anymore than the most fleeting fashion these are called "suicidal ideations". Some folks have them and never intend anything with them and never act on them, but some folks are later hit with a bout of depression or major life crisis and then spontaneously act on the ideation. You are probably fine, but if you tend to have such thoughts regularly, if you or family members suffer from anxiety, depression or manic episodes, please find a qualified professional to talk to. "Mere" suicidal ideation can be an early watch out sign if paired with other stressors and is not something just to take without introspection.

If you have concerns but don't know where to start, you can always try 1-800-273-8255 hotline or text 741741

I appreciate you saying this and I wasn’t trying to snarky or silly, just typing and pressing “post reply” a little too flippantly. There are things that shouldn’t be joked about and I should be more careful in my speech
