This is a tough question, because September and October are for hunting. But, if you've visited the park in the fall when is the best time to be there and see wildlife?

What I'm looking for is the best time to see the most wildlife and the fewest people. I have the luxury of being only 4 hours from Yellowstone, so I can swing over in September/October (or November) and enjoy without the crowds. Just wondering the best time to be there to see Grizzly and Black Bear.

your best bet is Late September or October. Seeing a grizz is pretty rare most of the time. That said last time we were there we saw a sow and cub running across a field about 100 yards away, That was pretty cool.

May but since it aint choice early October by november snow limits movement. Remember yellowstone is a ecosystem so you dont need park, lots of cool places around it to see bears and cool country with lot less people. Go watch grizzlies eat moths for example....

I am told grizzly bears become less active as get deep into the autumn. They should hibernate over winter in the Yellowstone region. I encountered a grizzly at first light during the first week of November in the Shoshone NF so you never can be sure and some say the few grizzly you encounter very late in the autumn are struggling to put on winter weight so can be aggressive.
