Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

USDA says:BEND OVER PLEASE

Nut ,you might be right on that ,however when you start looking through alot of this it comes back to many of the same org.
The assult doesnt stop at public lands.
It's this whole culture of these anti's telling us we shouldnt eat meat, drink milk, hunt, own firearms ,do anything to help keep our own people in buisness.
The only welfare I see as being no good is giving out money to have people sit at home cranking out kids and doing drug's.
If of my tax money goes to help people help themself and stay working and pay taxes I dont care.
They use alot of the same tactac's in trying to close down dairys that they do in closing down ranching, logging, minning, banning ATV.
We have people here that don't want dairys on private land.

I know MD. We had some problems with a chicken/egg farm a little south of here. The farm allowed the feces to run off to the ditches and so forth. The smell was awful for miles away depending on the way the wind blowed. (Just like the refinery 1 mile away from me) The locals there fought to close up the farm because they were irresponsible to the land and allowed the run off to go to their neighbors. Was that okay? I dont think so. I will see if I can find a link to it somewhere later.

Well don't even get me started on the timber/paper companies here. We have one local company Bowaters Inc that owns 700,000 acres just in Tn...and they own land in Ga, Sc, Al also.

Nut,I understand about bad farming /ranching practice's/we can take it another step and toss in unethical hunters/ATV riders.
The point is ,not to shut all of them down but to inforce the laws we now have and make the ones doing wrong pay.
And doing it for the right reason's.
Not because of the animal rights people telling us it's a sin to hunt, eat meat, drink milk.
I have no problem with going after the ones that REALLY are harming things.
But I also know we have people and org. that are making things up to further there agendas ,thats not right.
Check out the link .

Yes, they used to sell permits, but now they lease it. And once it is leased it is tied up forever. If the hunting club lets their lease go, a property owner who borders it has priority on the next years lease, and visa versa.

I know of a dairy farmer that couldn't make it in Western Washington because the rules were so strict, they tried getting the needed permits to sell their milk for almost a year, with 80plus head, that is very expensive to have that many pets, any way, they moved lock stock and barrel back east, they had what are called Dutch Belts, they look like an oreo cookie with legs and a head. They were just forced to move back to Wa. with out the cows. They had to sell every thing lock stock and barrel..This is a place that the laws are getting to be so regulatory that even following the rules, the gov. makes it so hard you can't make a living. Part of the biggest problem with all this I see, is that these pukey little beurocrats still get a check come pay day, so it is no skin off their noses to help these people that want to provide a raw product to put on the market and help out with the local economy..That is one big problem with individuals that get a check every month whether they do any thing or not, and give them a little power to swing around. They will be the ruination of this fine country...

Mylast job here in Idaho was with the local Farmers Co-op. I spent a great deal of time out at the ranches and farms with the owners. Most of them were driveing new pickups, had 4 wheel ATV's, travel trailers, nice homes, new horse trailers, new tractors, broke down attachments and fences. I always thought their priorities were just a little bit confused. The only topic of conversation they wanted was how broke they were and they weren't getting paid nearly enought and the government was cutting their subsities.
I though farming and ranching was a business. Just like my little retail store. If I can't make a profit in my business it is time to find a new business. The market will take care of it's self and prices will stablize when and where the consumer tells it to.

I agree 10000000000000%! I too find it ironic how they can step out of a brand new 1ton 4WD and complain about being broke! There will always be the need for agriculture, its just that now on public lands the public doesn't want the land degraded for the production of livestock.

I guess that just goes to show how bad the western states are messed up???

We don't get Government handouts here in the east or subsities. You either make it or you don't, there is no one too stick your hand out to and get those free taxpayer dollars.

What I find ironic is that if a farmer or rancher has a decent pickup or a piece of equipment such as a tractor that isn't a total wreck , the public-at-large thinks he's making too much money . But the city folks can have new pickups , SUV 's , boats , snowmobiles , quarter million and up homes , and a few other trinkets and no one bats an eye , and they all will still grumble about barely making ends meet .

I have worked a number of different jobs , and I have yet to meet a bunch of folks who think they all are making too much money !

That all said , the fact is , dairy historically has been just about the most heavily subsidized sector of all in agriculture . And if they raise any grain crops for feed , diary producers also get the grain subsidies along with it .

East or West , it makes no difference .

One big difference would be that the yuppie student SUV driver doesnt get a tax break for his vehicle, but you can bet your ass the rancher writes his off as a "business" expense. And if its your typical rancher, he probably whistles down the highway with his diesel (running dyed diesel and screwing the state/feds out of the fuel tax that everyone else has to pay), bitching the whole time about high taxes. Hmmmmmm??????

Hell if your going to school your going to get back more than you pay in by a long shot!!!!!!!
