Wrapped up four days in DC. Yesterday Marcus and I did a Fresh Tracks weekly video with some updates of what the week has been about. Mostly about public lands, with crazy new ideas coming out of this place with regularity.

This is what happens when you vote for the wrong person…..

Most of us are not allowed to vote in the elections of states where these efforts are coming from. Yet, we get to deal with the priorities of the people they vote for. Part of a Representative Republic.

I wish it was as simple as you make it seem. It's not. Of the 100 Senators, very few, less than five, have public land hunting in the top 25 items on their priority list, so it's not like we have a long list of public land hunting advocates to choose from in the voting booth.

It requires hunters to engage and get involved no matter who is elected. Hopefully many will do that.

It seems to be a delicate balance of supporting people that want to preserve your right to use the weapons you hunt with, and those that want to preserve your right to hunt that very land with those weapons.... does that make sense?

Reality is that you’ll never completely align with any politician, and if you think you do or will find one you’re a fool. I am speaking I generalities, not to you jlong.

Vote for the people that you most align with and then keep speaking up.

My wife and I took our kids to a town hall meeting with our congresswoman yesterday. First-time experience for all of us. I very much wanted to ask what she and other supposed public land advocates in Congress plan to do to stop the sale of 500k acres of federal public land from making it into the reconciliation bill, but they used a lottery system to call on people to speak and my number did not get called.

But even though none of the dozen or so people who spoke brought up the specific issue of the reconciliation bill, three of those people did voice their concern over protecting public lands. So in our area at least, it seems to be one of the priorities on people’s minds.
