Unit 22 Oregon

My research has my Oregon hunt narrowed down to the Dixon unit in the southern part of the state. I will be hunting the first week of November. I'm looking to complete my North American Deer Slam with a Columbia blacktail. Has anyone ever hunted it? Should we get bear tags? Any advise will truly be appreciated! Good huntin'

I lived down there and hunted it for several years. It's a good area for deer!

As for a bear tag, if you were hunting in Sept/Oct I would lean more towards suggesting one. I check in bears where I work and November bears are rare although we do get an occasional one. I guess it just depends on how bummed you will be if you get a chance at a bear and don't have a tag. Lots of bears in that country!

For deer look for older clear-cuts with trees almost big enough to obscure the deer. That is where they feel most comfortable. With the later end date the bucks should be moving and you should be able to connect. There are a lot of huge forks in that country. Old mature bucks that only ever amount to a fork. If I see a white face I usually shoot as any mature blacktail is a shooter in most peoples minds.

Joe honestly bear are by far my favorite critters to hunt so with your info I will be getting a tag. If a mature fork buck comes within range there will be no hesitation on my part. Trophy in my opinion. I truly appreciate your help. Oregon is along way from PA. If you ever want to kill a PA bear, turkey, or bear I'll be sure to return the favor.

Robert,what dates are you going?What are the cost numbers?I can get my airfare free so just hotel,license costs there.End of oct or early Nov I could probably make

First week of November. Leaving out of Philly on the 31st at 3:00pm US Air. Total without airfare around $1000.00
