I think people would be shocked to know where they can and do live. I’ve found tracks multiple times out in gumbo flats miles from any “catty country”.That is a neat study. We seen one down by Indian Creek Road off the Little Missouri River, which is probably 30-40 miles to the Long Pines. I first couldn’t believe a lion would live out there, but there was a lot of whitetail and mule deer back then.
Same here. They end up way out in the prairie pretty frequently.I think people would be shocked to know where they can and do live. I’ve found tracks multiple times out in gumbo flats miles from any “catty country”.

Walking out one night leading my mule had one scream at us in the pitch dark. That mule turned into secretariat with me trying to hold on. Found out the next day we’d walked in on a fresh kill.Used to hunt acreage on the Red River north of town here. Beaucoup tracks, never saw one nor had one on game cams, but found a few deer carcasses cached. Can’t say I wasn’t jumpy walking in before sunrise.
Oh man, had an owl screech right on top of me one pitch dark morning...the box blind was very nearly an involuntary outhouse.Walking out one night leading my mule had one scream at us in the pitch dark. Mountain lions are one animal that has always really fascinated me. I started deer hunting with family when I was 8 or 9 years old (am 30 now) and I have never seen a mountain lion in the wild. I know I’ve been in their area I’ve seen a lot of tracks but have never actually spotted one..
Kind of eerie to think How Many we all have walked by that seen us but we never seen them.
I called one in hunting wolves once. Just saw a tail flick around some brush. Went back up the next day and he followed me all the way back to the truck without me knowing it.When I was in high school I was doing some night coyote calling. I didn’t have the fancy gadgets I have now for night calling. I had my spotlight with a red potato bag over the thing to dim it down. I was calling in some rough country and never did have anything come in but the hair on the back of my neck kept standing up. I finished my set and got out of there. Went up there the next day and had mountain lion tracks to a small clump of buffalo berry bush within 75 yards of me. Could see where he crouched down and watched some big dumb jackrabbit squealing away. I had no clue
That’s a goal of mine to call one in and kill it. I’m fascinated with predator huntingI called one in hunting wolves once. Just saw a tail flick around some brush. Went back up the next day and he followed me all the way back to the truck without me knowing it.
I didn’t have a tag in my pocket unfortunately. I’d love to do it again with a tag. That’s a goal of mine to call one in and kill it. I’m fascinated with predator hunting
Hell I know some barn cats that walk around like that. Can’t imagine messing with one 10x as bigIt would be cool to have no natural enemy. King of the woods.
