Training the Wife

My wife has tried, backing the boat trailer many times and never successful. Until we bought an F150 with back up assist, I don’t use it, but it works for her.

Can't wait til some of you show this to the little lady. LOL
Some folks just have a knack for it. Most are clueless with a camera on everything still.

I learned backing trucks onto docks and in Terminal Main.
20 years as a park ranger/lake patrol made me keep my head down and let the chips fall. Boat ramps? Please.
Witnessed too many vaca's start with dad backing the trailer into a site. Many ended with frowns or an intervention.

My 4 sisters will tell everyone I taught them to fish or surf.
I showed them.

My grandpa was the best and most patient man I ever knew. The one and only time in 30 years I got to spend with him where I witnessed him lose his shit was a camping trip to Seeley Lake when I was 7 and it was a direct result of my grandma giving him instructions to back the 5th wheel up into a telephone pole.

Had this exact issue yesterday. Backing truck up to unload some stuff and can kind of hear here giving commands back there but she's not visible in the mirrors.
We've been married 41 years, I don't think it's gonna happen.

You all know they make backup cameras for trailers right?
This x1000
I invested in a whole new Move rear bumper for my truck so I could add in a backup camera that WiFi’s to iPad. This for hooking up the trailer.
If I need directions for backing in the trailer I will expand the camera system to the back.

I have found it to be less frustrating to drop the wife and dog off a mile from the campground so they can stretch there legs.

You learn how to back and ask the right questions. Don’t ask her for directions on what to do.

Keep questioning simple.

Am I clearing the tree?
Let me know if I’m going to hit…
Get out and show her where you want to stop, place a stick there.

I used to work on the dock at a used furniture store and I can assure you that often the problem isn't the person giving the directions.
This^^^ my wife doesn’t even bother getting out of the truck. I back trailers up daily and often have to parallel park them on busy city streets. You all might just need to get better at driving!

Uncle Dutch’s rule for backing up…this truck isn’t moving until I can see your (back up boy) eyes in my (side view) mirror. Hold your hands up like a referee signaling a touchdown and bring them together as I get closer to the stopping spot (most likely the unloading chute).

Now technology for the win….back up camera for hitches make it a one shot slam dunk.
