But I thought about it as it related to hunters understandings, or lack there of, of CWD. At times it feels like "science" and facts simply don't matter.

Give this a listen https://www.wnycstudios.org/…/radiol…/articles/breaking-news

Then watch the video embeded in this article from earlier this week: https://www.newsweek.com/richard-nixon-deepfake-apollo-disi…

If we think facts don't matter now, just think of when no one can tell facts from fiction. When you honestly can't believe what you see or hear.

If you want to get hop down the rabbit hole Google "Deep Fake".

"At times it feels like "science" and facts simply don't matter".

Not even amazed anymore by our capacity for, I'll be nice, being not intelligent.
Hubris.
In addition to the obvious reasons one can become jaded, there's another.
I spent over three decades collecting data for people with more degrees than I possess(ed). Spent many years astounded at the misuse, abuse, misinterpretation, ignoring, manipulating, etc of the data by some of those folks.
Seems a perfect storm for some bad things to come, all the way around.

Cut and pasted from the CWD thread (self importantly quoting myself)...

There are times when we scientists are our own worst enemy.
An example, which is often discussed on this very forum:
MT's state fish and wildlife agency "science" has become suspect in many cases and instances (I can no way express how much this pains me to say, hit's real deep.....).
These type of things do no favors to the general public's views of science and it's validity. Nor the scientists' credibility......

My young four legged wire faced nose and I got two public land roosters this morning.
This is what I hang onto, and will continue to.
The reality(s) of the OP are too f&*^ed.
A very good fishing buddy, former co-worker, and mentor today informed me he has heart failure and things aren't going well. A wake up.
At 57 myself, I'm enjoyin'. Let the younger folks (read outdoorsfolks) with more to lose than I, play Russian Roulette with their and their offspring's future...........................

I think there will be a strong shift in the next 30 years that may result in a backtracking of information. Where there is no real news anymore. And people genuinely don't follow what's going on in the world, but not for the reasons that's occurring now (laziness or lack of give-a-shit) but simply because the truth is no longer communicable.

Following a young bird dog through a sea of grass or watching an raven play on an afternoon thermal will only become more "real" with the lack of truth in society.

And oh yeah.
For some of us, there is nothing that is "hunting (or fishing, or hiking, or floating, or taking pics of rams, or....) unrelated".
I self righteously pity those who are not of the above persuasion.

There is no fake news at 9300 feet on a scree slope, on the Yellowstone during the salmonfly hatch, or when your 12 year hunting pard is asleep on the seat of the truck-her head in yer lap, a hun feather stuck in her lips...............
