Heading to Wyoming this year on a General Tag and wondering if dragging an ATV from Indiana is worth it. Thoughts?

It really depends where you're going and how capable your primary vehicle is. I've never taken one to hunt elk, deer, or pronghorn in Wyoming, but I've also had to avoid certain roads or park an extra mile or 2 from the trailhead a few times.

Short answer for me: If I had a reliable ATV, I'd probably take it if it weren't much trouble. If it determines whether or not you have to pull a trailer, I'd leave it at home.

I don’t have one but a lot of times i wish i did. I’d just ride it on the usual roads i take my pickup to the trailheads
What’s better, comfortably riding something made for that terrain, or beating the hell out of a $30k pickup going half the speed?

Whether it’s worth pulling that far or not, i don’t know.

We try to take an ATV on most of our hunts. Even though we usually have vehicles that will handle 90% of the roads the flexibility the ATV provides is worth the trouble. With multiple hunters you can go different directions. If I am by myself I use it to do some one way hunts. Park the ATV at one end of a long ridge or canyon and hunt to my truck. This allows me to cover more ground. The ATV typically is a little more economical to operate but that advantage may be lost in the extra cost of transporting it.

Some roads you can not take a truck down, I have seen what happens when some try, broken tie rods.
I would bring it, you might find an atv only trail to hunt from.
You'll need a sticker, buy it from almost any license selling agent or atv shop.

I really value having my UTV when opportunity is present... The simple aspect of dropping the truck off at one location and driving the UTV to the start (or vise versa) make for covering ground awesome. Especially if something goes down, shortest / easiest route to one vehicle or the other...

Perhaps look into renting one. I've done that and its been about even, but then I didn't have to tow it either.

If there are "roads" you can take a truck down, I would definitely take one. I hunted a unit in WY, and while the truck could travel them, you'd end up beating it and scratching it all up. The ATV was WAAAY easier, safer, faster and more comfortable. Well... more comfortable except for the 20 degree wind chill, but it was nothing the rain gear and gloves didn't knock down. It turned a 2 hour truck ride into a 30 minute ATV ride from our camper.

Be sure you have the required "spark arrestor" on there to prevent a fire from your exhaust. It's required on ANY National Forest Lands plus it's the right thing to do per Smokey the Bear. Also, a muffler silencer will go a long way in cutting down on the noise in the mountains. In MS where I live, I parked my atv about 100 yards from about 20 hogs and a few deer without them hearing me. If you don't have one, they're worth every penny in my humble opinion. Good luck and enjoy the view.

I have taken my atv on almost every trip. Some hunts are hard to do with out it. However some hunts it never left the trailer one time.

Atv is great way to tansport to and from camp, plus haul game. Use them every year.

I didn't have one on my first WY hunt, and quickly found several official BLM roads that you weren't getting very far on without a monster truck, or an ATV. Hiked a bunch and had fun, but wasn't able to hunt a lot of the unit due to ruts, washouts, rocks, etc in the road...that would have been passable with an ATV.
