Thoughts on this bailout and “stimulus”?

I think you are referring to the House bill that is being dreamed up by some far left democrats. The real bill is the senate bill which will likely pass tomorrow. Yes it will need to clear the house, and yes there will be plenty of BS spending. But the things you listed are a wishlist, and most of them will not be part of the final package.
No these were in the bill that pelosi presented and was being negotiated today to get passed for us schmucks. It will never pass with that stuff in it but it does delay it as they hash all the crap out from both sides.

After 18 pages I haven’t learned anything, my mind hasn’t changed, I don’t think anyone’s has.

Only observation worth noting, it sure doesn’t seem the government has the same urgency in helping the people effected by stopping the economy as they did in stopping the economy. I know people who don’t know how they will pay their bills in 8 days.

At the end of the day, this stimulus is just like flattering the curve, we’re just buying time, we might dodge the bullet and come up with a vaccine/treatment for the virus, but the cure for the economic Ailment were about to put ourselves in, maybe not... hopefully I’m wrong, but I become more sure every day... 5 new houses listed in my neighborhood this week... things to come..

Like No Country For Old Men - No sense in fighting what's coming. Better to figure out how to protect what you've got and maybe keep up with the inflation. The politicians are going to do what they did in 2001 and 2008 - deliver the $$ to their corporate donors who will misallocate the money again b/c there's no consequences for poor decisions. They'll attempt to inflate a new bubble just like they've done after every recent crash. All we saw the last 10 years was a weak recovery created by stock buybacks fueled by cheap debt that they're now selling to the fed and the American taxpayers.

You can't print money at these rates without serious consequences so put your money to work somewhere b/c if it's sitting in the bank it's going to lose value. Gold and real estate are traditionally good hedges against inflation. There will be other winners in the next run up, but the losers will be the American taxpayer.

Gov't picks the winners and losers now and has been this way for awhile, and we just get to deal with it. This bubble is worse than the last and the next will be worse than this one.

Hope everyone is well wherever you're sheltered.

Yes Pelosi is in the House not the Senate. I agree that these items are junk, but you are talking about a totally separate bill. Im sure she has that bill at the negotiating table so she can tell the senate what needs to be in the senate bill in order to pass the house quickly. The house bill will never see the light of day.

My thoughts as well. Good cop bad cop routine. The Senate bill will be the one that gets passed.

Agreed, so back to my original point. Many posts ago. They wanna Bitch about not helping the people fast enough like their life depended on it on the one hand and delay the help with the other hand.

Like I said it's all bull honky...everyone just bend the hell over and take it from both letters. They got great health insurance benefits so their not short on the viagra.

We'll see if the markets like this package coupled with Trump's "back to work by Easter" theme. If the market's respond favorably, at least we can get some of our retirement money back and college money for those of us saving. All of this is so vulnerable now...hard to trust much of anything.

I didnt read every post on this thread but read many lets keep in mind that everyone is in a differnt place in life and we are not to be judge and jury of their situation i have a good friend of 50 yrs he works hard to suport his family on his own due to wifes health issues 4 kids they went from 2 incomes to one yrs ago and NO they dont have 6 months of income saved up NO they cant just turn off internet the kids need it for school

Im sure the Gov will goof this up they always do lol both sides care very little for middle america but thats not the real issue right now is it ? it the folks that are hurting and in real trouble wondering how to put food on the table or pay rent, bills for no fault of their own

This shit sandwich delay is completed expected. That some are surprised about this delay is surprising to me.

Both sides have the same franchise model, just different shareholder groups. One franchise is owned by what we call the DNC and the other owned by the RNC, with RNC and DNC being accountable to their funders and only slightly accountable to voters when their salvation is at stake. Neither is accountable to the USA, you, or me. Just the way our world of government has evolved since the Citizen's United case expanded the definition of who is granted 1st Amendment rights under the Constitution (to now include corporations and other entities).

I wish I could paint a more optimistic situation for how our governance has evolved. My opinion, and confirmed by what I see in this stupid fight in Congress, is that anyone expecting the interest of the people and the country to be put ahead of politics and the political donors owning the respective franchises, is likely to be disappointed.

Depending on the topic, I lean more toward what one franchise owner is serving and possibly toward the other franchise owner on a different topic. But I am well served to remember that each franchise owner would sell me and my interests down the river in a heartbeat if it meant they could keep the franchise "open for business" with their shareholder/donors.

When I read comments that one franchise owner is all good or one is all bad, or that one is the problem and the other is the salvation, such makes me shake my head. Maybe I am too jaded from too many trips to DC and engaging with too many elected officials, many of whom are good people. It is a waste of time to try convince me that either franchise is concerned about me and my fellow Americans more than they are concerned about their shareholders/donors.

Some like the Whopper and some like the Big Mac. Both franchises will make you sick if your daily diet is only what they serve. Make your pick, and when you swallow what is being served, use heavy doses of caution.

Me; I'll cook my own burger.

Carry on .....
THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO EXPLAINE WASHINGTON!!
Ive said for yrs I hate the democrats and dispise the republicans lol they care not for the folks that they are suposed to represent just their own special interests
but dont go getting a big head over the compliment big fin lol

What I'd like to see is simple, if we give money to big corporations, don't make it free money, make them pay it back when times are good again, I'd love to see interest there too but hell interest free is better than free money.

This is why pure capitalism just doesn't work anymore. Republicans claim they want that, then rush to give their corporate buddies free money when they didn't properly plan for economic down turn. Man free money for those who didn't work for it, doesn't sound like capitalism to me....

At the end of the day it's all a joke, you and I have almost zero pull to do anything, the entire state of south Dakota could tell John Thune to not vote one way and he still would if told to do so by: Trump/McConnell/corporations that pay for his campaigns. Why would he worry about his constituents? Most of us just vote, we can't afford to bank roll his next election.

Here is the text of the bill - https://assets.bwbx.io/documents/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/rY0Bl72CufkE/v0

As a CPA, I get to read a lot of tax bills. Tax bills, stimulus bills, health care bills, etc. are all specialized welfare bills if you really get down into the details; disguised socialism might be a better way of explaining it. Perusing over the last hour, this bill is no different. For all the comments about what Pelosi and Schumer got put in for their DNC franchise owners/donors, McConnell and McCarthy did a hell of a job for the RNC franchise owners/donors. Both groups will get big kudos from their donors.

There is a reason that these bills require 800+ pages - it takes 883 pages to hide that much welfare. To provide $700 Billion to the unemployed and small businesses, it evidently requires an equal amount to the well-connected folks with their paid lobbyist on speed dial. In the first few sections, one sees the trend.

Select industries (hotels and restaurants) get to write off their building improvements immediately. Us poor saps not in those select industries have to write it off ratably over 30+ years.

Some get to go back and amend tax returns to get retroactive refunds for the changes in their industry. The rest of us get a boot in the ass.

If you are a hotel that employees more than 500 employees, but not more than 500 employees work at any one location, step up to the trough, you get the gubmit dole (loans, possiby forgiven loans). If you are any other business that has more than 500 employees, no matter where they work, too bad for you. All you need is a tax return with a NICS code that starts with "72" to get exemption from the 500 employee rule, which by using that language exempts one type of businesses, hotels.

I could go on and on. The list of non-worker, non-small business welfare in this bill is immense.

From reading it, they could have done the unemployment and small business provisions in about 25 pages. That would be too easy and would have been done in about a two-hour meeting. Anyone who thinks that the special interest provisions come from all one side or the other either hasn't read the bill, even a cursory read, or they failed reading comprehension. Such claims make me laugh.

Further proof of my post above explaining their franchise models. They never let a crisis go to waste that could benefit their shareholders/donors at the RNC/DNC. They're all in it together and our children/grandchildren are footing the bill for how these two entities repay their political debts.
