There were times I was glad I was carrying the pistol or my wife may have shot me. I kept pushing up and in the end we had good opportunities. A couple of times we got on top of the elk and they had no way of getting our wind without exposing themselves. Well they were not going to play that game and instead they were content to sit in the dark cool timber. Maybe someone can shed some light on why certain elk bugle very softly. It was almost funny to hear it. But in the end the winds seemed to swirl in their favor. A couple of times we were so far back it became a sight seeing trip. I was not going to shoot anything that far back without horses or some other way of extracting the animal.
