The best laid palns of mice and men are still subject to divine intervention......2024 edition

I am home now. :) Yesterday on the road I stopped off and had a great dinner with my nephew and his very sweet new wife before making it to Columbia MO for the night. Up early this morning and made it to Indy in time for lunch with my brother at probably my favorite food place in the world....Heidelberg Haus. Now I'm at the inlaws for a couple days before heading to Redman's.

I’ll have to try the Heidelberg Haus next time I’m visiting my mom. Checked out the website, looks delicious!

Got to the farm for the first time this year. Put together a new ladder stand that is going on the edge of some CRP (which is OUT of control this year). Then I start to head back toward the stand in the woods. I jumped a MONSTER at the edge of the CRP..... almost crapped my pants. He took off into the woods and if I would have been in that stand he would have been done. Man I hope to get another look at him.

You're killing me with the classic Indiana food. It's been too long since i've been home.

I grew up about a 1/2 hour from one of the aforementioned towns. Maybe have eaten some chow at the same places.

Say for the first time this afternoon. Got in the stand for a beautiful day after Redman and i got the new ladder stand I brought for firearms up at lunch. Was in there about 1500....sunny and +-60 with little to no breeze. Lots of squirrels as usual.... loud lil buggers. I'm in a grove of oaks which makes them happy. About an hour left of light a spike snuck past my back. I put out a couple if tending grunts he came back walked around my stand for about 20 minutes or so. He wondered off after he couldn't figure it out. For about the last 30 minutes or so I had a coon literally circling around the bottom of my tree. Great way to start things off.

Maybe with cheese. And that’s definitely a midwestern size serving of B and G!!!

I’ve been in Indiana my entire 41 years and the Indy-area for the last 20. Also from a very German family.

Any experience with Claus’ sausage?

Everything he does is EXCELLENT.....it used to be Klemms and was closer to downtown. When they built Lucas Oil they had to move. Klemms (Claus' aunt and uncle) retired and sold the business to him when he got his masters in sausage making in Germany..... he emigrated and took over at the new location. He had his own smoke house, does his own sauerkraut and his bacon is amazing. Supplies most of the German restaurants in town and the Oktoberfest at the GAK!

And you Are the winner with MUSH!!! Hadn't had it in years.

Grandma fried slices of mush in bacon grease and served it with syrup.

I always assumed the sausages at a lot of the German restaurants came from Claus. Super cool place.

I the stand this morning ... another beautiful day up an oak tree. So far these ladies, 3 forkys and a shooter buck have shown themselves. Igor the buck to stop a to 40-45 yds but. When he did his vitals were behind ac tree. Wondered up into the CRP. to bed down. I think he came out directly across from where I set up the gun stand yesterday. Still a little over a week and a half of fun. I love this.
