Their "testing" is a bit too unrealistic. Even when those guys are ready and waiting for the grizzly pic to came at them they only manage to get the weapon out when the bear is maybe 10 feet from them. 
Now suppose you're bent over a deer or elk with your back turned to where the bear comes from, the bear will be on you before you have time to think.

That is why the victim of a bear attack rarely can deploy mitigation. It takes more than one person to stop an attack. The second person who does not have a bear on top of them or an arm in a bear's mouth, is the one to deploy bear spray or a pistol. I would not waste time stepping out of the way either. Bad habit to get into. Too easy to stumble or trip when out in the mountains. I feel a charging bear has better reflexes than me. Concentrate on making shots count.

There have been a slew of successful bear defense stories with various handguns in the last few years. The number one thing they all have in common is situational awareness and lots of bullets going down range. Too many stories are verifiable to keep hearing everyone say there's no time to get a weapon out in a bear attack. Sometimes you have the time and sometimes you don't. If you don't... well, you don't. That's pretty simple. If you do you gotta decide how you want to try and save yourself.
