Tent vs Trailer

There are several more builds on that site of utility trailers turned campers. I think its a great idea, and might do it eventually.

Given practice, a wall tent with a frame goes up with surprising ease.

I set up my 10x12 solo. The main trick for me is having the frame pieces labelled somehow, so you can tell the legs from the rafters etc. at a glance.

It takes a lot to stop a 4x4 with chains. FYI if I did buy a trailer I would do exactly as you are describing.

We kind of converted a trailer into a camper. We wanted to make sure it was still able to haul stuff too. If you have questions let us know. It is perfect for a base camp on an elk hunt or for using it on an antelope hunt. We try to backpack in on our elk hunts but it is nice to come back to a comfy bed and a heater.

That's just about exactly what I was thinking of Mr Steve. Are you happy with 16 foot, I was thinking about 14 if I can still get tandem axles on it? I'm also leaning towards a V-nose, if I can figure how to utilize that extra space better (water tank or something). Anything you would have done differently? Thanks

16 foot is perfect for 2 to 3 people. We've done 4 but gets crowded. 14 foot wouldn't be an issue though. V nose is personal preference. It has 12v outlets and house outlets with a converter in it which has been handy. Also we added 20 hooks around the walls for hanging clothes and stuff. The front storage could be better as it doesn't have shelves. If you have specific questions let me know.

Well done! WIll the Range fit in the trailer? I'm thinking I could like something like that quite well. However, my wife likes to camp and I'm guessing she consider that quite spartan...

On topic: you might want to check out roof top tents (RTT's). They set up quickly and can be attached to off road trailers, pickup toppers, roof racks, ect.

Yep the ranger fits in perfectly, but if I were to do it again I would get a trailer with the extra 6 inch height. With the standard height it just fits in so if you had larger tires or somthing it wouldn't fit.
