I was just in a gun shop and saw two boxes of winchester 307 ammo, never heard of that one before!

I tried finding ammo for my wife's .280 Remington last year. Certainly not an easy one to find.

I’m hoping that it will make a reappearance now that Ruger/Marlin is going to offer it in the “new” lever action rifles they’re building.

I was just in a gun shop and saw two boxes of winchester 307 ammo, never heard of that one before!

Winchester was trying some things in the 80's to get more Model 94's sold. 307 is a semi rimmed 308 so it will feed in a lever gun. They also brought out the 356 Win which was a 358 Win with a rim.
Neither one caught on, but they sure did make some pretty Model 94 XTR big bores in the 80's.

A late arrival on the old west scene is this 50-100-450. Certainly a powerful cartridge that could have been a real buffalo cartridge in a repeater, but was just too late to do so.

The only three maybe four that I would do again would be a 223 ackley and 7mm max and if I wasn’t running suppressors with short barrels I’d do a 7mm mashburn and 338-06 again. The 17s bullet selection isn’t what it use to be for coyote bullets. Not sure anyone even makes a 30 grain anymore. The 22-250 ackley and 220 swift ackley brass situation sucks anymore so I’d just got 22 creedmoor. My choice in bullets I like to shoot now days takes the 25 cals out of the equation. Out of the 6.5s I’d just rather have a 6.5 creedmoor or 6.5 prc for cheaper brass options. The 7mm-08 ackley didn’t offer enough over the 7mm-08 to worry about.

Interesting! Thanks for the response. What did the 338 Sherman Max do? I’ve never really looked into the Sherman cartridges.

I didn’t play with it long as a friend wanted it more than I did but if I remember right 225 grain accubond was going 2900fps.

404 Jeffery. Once fairly obscure, especially in North America, the 404 Jeff has recently become quite popular again. It was the first rimless big bore cartridge designed for Mauser 98 bolt action rifle. First ones came out in 1905. Was a bit of a trick fitting that fat cartridge into a standard action rifle designed for 8mm (Mauser didn't make a magnum action until 1913 exclusively for Rigby's new 416 cartridge). Jeffery cut away the two sides and front of the Mauser 98 bottom metal magazine box, using the opened up wooden stock as magazine box. A piece of tin lined the top of the box to keep cartridge tips from pounding into wood during recoil. The receiver had to be significantly altered to make the larger shells feed and eject. I decided if Jeffery could do it, so could I. Finished my Mauser 98 404 Jeffery just in time for this year's trip to Africa. Sent it off to be blued yesterday.

And now it's back. He did a great job.

Edit: Just upgraded the stock to a used commercial one with fancy wood and checkering. Also added a new 1-4x scope and lower base. Slimmer commercial stock required modifying the action screws and magazine box. I added reinforcement to handle 404's heavy recoil: two crossbolts and steel rod through the wrist. Then refinished with Linspeed oil.

I see when i go to Finnland for Training. They use it hunt Grouse with. I use 350 brass to reload and 78gr
