Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Tariffs

We just broke ground on 2 new commercial builds in Sioux Falls last week. Bid some work in Sisseton, Aberdeen, and some more work in Sioux Falls that we didn't get. We usually don't do much on SD, but will go if a client wants us to. It's shaping up to be a pretty busy year.
I greatly disagree. The exchange has been quiet and overall bid requests are down.

Dodge just recently released a report and the only construction that has seen an increase is infrastructure which doesn't have much of my gear

Okay, I'm just letting you know what we're seeing. We don't pursue work through builders exchanges. You can disagree, but that's not true in my case. We are already over capacity for the year, with dozens of additional projects in different stages of design, budgeting, and bidding.

Ya, non exchange is always tricky in my world.

Appreciate the view. Been pretty doom and gloom so a differing opinion is a nice change of pace!

Everyone one I've talked to here says their workload is on par to be about the same as last year so far. Last year was a little slower than the previous few. Take that fwiw.

Just saw this a bit ago. @SAJ-99 OR @brymoore what do you make of this are the terrifs going to zero out now? Seems like this would've been covered more on the news this evening if that's what's happening?
That was from this morning, before the tariffs were announced this afternoon. I haven’t seen a real response from any country yet. Maybe by morning? Market is realizing he wasn’t joking and it wasn’t a negotiating tactic. He either doesn’t understand anything or understands perfectly and is actively trying to harm the global economy.

Australia’s response.

If the goal was to zero out, the US could have eliminated all tariffs in an act of free trade instead of starting a trade war with the unilateral tariffs.

Some countries will see no need to retaliate. After all, the tax is on us.
Bessent was on tv asking for patience, trying to avoid escalation. We can start a pool on who takes the blame for this one. I got Lutnik.

Lutnik has already been named as the guy responsible to make tariffs work.

Initial estimates are this is a $600B tax on American citizens with Fed estimates of 2% inflation growth.

Powell may want to quit his job trying to deal with this mess.

Construction in the midwestern states is booming. Any decent builder with some resources is booked up with about all they can handle.

While the tax is on us, the lost business due to depressed demand is on them.

This is likely to escalate in ways difficult to see presently.

Or maybe something else ....

This is an interesting deep dive into one aspect relative to Canada.

Being retired on a fixed income, I keep waiting and wondering how this all is going to effect us. A couple things I'm glad of is that everything is paid for and we replaced my wife's car last year. Now I'm wondering what all I should pre-buy before I need it. The only thing that comes to mind is tires for my truck. I generally buy Cooper Tires that are made in the USA. I'll guess that the components are imported so they will still be a %25+ increase.
Trump said he was going to lower prices. It doesn't seem to be working out that way. The cost of living has already gone way past our cost of living increase.

The septic tank is full. It all trickled down.
It's a tax on consumers for another tax break for the rich.
There is no deficit except the input from the rich & corp's.
Listening to the crazy admin excuses for their reasoning is just nuts this morning.
No soup for you!
The septic tank is full and we are the leach field.

This clown has been spouting the plants coming back for years. As he & friends put their $ elsewhere.
I do not see how even building a small shop would pencil out in this economy.
