Tariffs and Potential Inflation

No doubt shooter had training (see him calmly clear a jam), but our security guys say unlikely a true pro hit as a pro would not have done it in such a public place - a pro hit would have got him walking his dog or something.

Would be shocked if related to a trading window mess - those happen all the time.

Public stakeholders are driven by profit.

Trump and Biden refer to national security implications, among other aspects.

Very rare both Democrats and Republicans agree...

This has troubled me for... decades. I was fortunate to get hired at one of the refineries in the Billings area. Those sort of jobs are in very limited number in today's world. We cheerfully pissed away blue collar manufacturing jobs, beginning about the time I reached adulthood. It is really only the professional class that has enjoyed the fruits of globalization. It is a very mixed bag for most.

No small part of our political malaise is due to the fact that the bottom half of our society is barely keeping their heads above water.

The oli company I worked for was the one with multiple xx's in their name. Some part of the time I was the union chairman for the wage employees. I was invited to a luncheon when one of the big wigs was in town. I was seated next to him and had a conversation. He told me that the investments by American corporations in China would result in them becoming more like us. While he has passed away, if he was alive, I'd love to ask him how long it would take to have China become westernized.

I can go with a semi-professional hit job. They did get some partial facial images, and that will be helpful tracking down the shooter.

maybe they did become like us. The wealth inequality is as great there as here and recent survey show the average citizens feels they are less able to advance economically. Sound familiar? It took us 50yrs. It took them 20. You’re welcome, China.

China doesn’t steal everything. In fact, most companies will give it away to reach 1 billion+ new consumers. It’s almost funny how Americans complain about buying “knockoffs” when it’s their own demand for cheap stuff that drives that market. The reality is America and China need a way to move forward together in order to benefit both. Anything else is a pissing match where everyone loses.

China and the U.S. are at war, thankfully w/o boots on the ground - at this point. Though just as oil brought America to war a few times over, minerals China State owned or majority shares may lead U.S. into proxy wars with countries China hold minerals beyond the vast majority they, themselves hold.
Some people in America are oblivious to the trade war between China, prior U.S. Administrations, accelerated under Trump I, and Biden who retained and multiplied Trumps tariffs. Americans either choose to keep a blind eye or obliviously tinker with their figurative Ken and Barbie (made in China).

Cheap Chinese labor and mass production flushed into the U.S. economy undermines American production. Why? It's simple: Chinese labor force has no where near the health and safety regulations American workers are granted. Thus we pay more for American goods.

In the past decade, U.S. has always held less import tariffs than China. We raise to catch their tariffs, they raise further. Who holds the minerals for our future dependance on "green energy"? Yep, you guessed it. China. We fight this through the economy - beats the hell out of boots on the ground to secure minerals. Don't think that holds potential?

Look at oil and the wars to secure our addiction. Difference stands out - Between U.S. and Canada, we hold enough oil reserves. This setting? China owns us for our electric / solar "green energy" dependance that we step deeper and deeper into the house of the [Chinese] rising sun.

Writing is on the wall - suck it up and deal with American valued production where employees hold far greater health and safety regulations than Chinese labor. We either fight an economic war or down the road...

Bernanke in 2011
"A large and increasing level of government debt relative to national income risks serious economic consequences...Even the prospect of unsustainable deficits has costs, including an increased possibility of a sudden fiscal crisis.

We can't say we weren't warned.

“If I had a magic wand, I would raise taxes and cut retirement spending,”

Forward to 2024 Yellen:

“When the markets weaken, prices fall, [and] it’s our firms that go out of business. … Chinese firms continue to receive support so that they remain in.”

Follow up with an Obama Administration member of his National Security Council, Evan Medeiros, a Georgetown University China expert;
“It boils down to the fact that the economic juice [from cutting tariffs] was not worth the political squeeze”

I am too lazy to genAI the four horseman with Biden, Trump, Putin and Xi on horseback.

Do you think AI is developed well enough to have Trump and Putin look powerful, bare chested? Biden, I could handle him...just draw a stick man.
