This will be particularly interesting to see I think. Because there are definitely some moderates out there who just can't stomach Trump for personality and scandals. To those people I'd like JD would be much more palatable. And everyone else who was excited to vote for Trump will vote for JD anyway. Unless the Dems actually put forth a worthwhile candidate next time. So far, their retrospectives have me doubting that will be the case. But 4 years is a long ways off today.

It never works for a VP to run as "I am the same as the other guy". So Vance will have to either pivot a bit towards his prior never-trump positions, or pivot to add in some of the conservative social issues Trump seems not to care about (like abortion). That choice of pivot will decide how traditional GOP camps split on him. I do think that are 10 million+ trump voters that are personal to his cult of personality that will not transfer to anyone else unless there is a very believable, but unconstitutional, implication of a "vote for Vance but wink wink Donald will still control everything from behind the curtain" - which I doubt will happen. It is not that these voters will then go Dem, but that they will become demotivated and not vote at all or fragment votes across a bunch of minor crazy alternative candidates.

Would be fantastic on a State and Federal level if Democrats were capable of offering a better platform and candidates.

As of current, we, the American people, voted into office a President we've already experienced...

I would add that we as the people had the chance to choose, in BOTH INSTANCES, someone we have had in office before. Pretty rare we are voting for an office where you have the incumbent party and someone who was an incumbent. Speaks volumes for how much America trusts the current administration to do the right thing.

My hope is next time we actually get new blood on both sides and both actually put up a platform for us to choose from, without all the b.s. we've had to deal with over the last several years.

The two parties need a real threat from a viable third party that is more moderate to change the status quo IMO. They resist all other efforts to moderate IMO. Often say things aren't simple but two age old political standby's likely were the difference. All politics are local ..and people vote their pocketbook...in this case the memory of their pocketbook in years past. Dems were never able to get the reality of greatly improved recent conditions accepted by voters.

Already lots of voters remorse as key nominations are being made... which will just grow.

I'm not a fan of Trump though far less a fan of Harris and their platform.

I believe that more resonates for U.S voters than win, win supporters of Trump.

Gaetz nomination got the swamp all in a tither, big middle finger from Trump.
Trump knew Gaetz would quickly implode and withdraw from his nomination.

Carter oversaw inflation and general bumbling as POTUS lost 8% of his votes
Biden oversaw inflation and general senility as POTUS and his tapped late minute successor lost 8.5%

I predict next POTUS to look feeble and oversee inflation will also lose 8-10% of his/her voters. Frankly, it is a sad testament to voters' commitment to team colors that the loses aren't even bigger with such brutal performance.

After I promised myself to sit this thread out.

I would not expect Trump voters to have remorse, given the motivation of a good chunk of his voters. Many of them are the people most hurt by globalization of the economy. I think many of them know that their lot in life is set in cement. They want to strike back at anything they think helped cause their decline in standard of living. Having a shit show for the next four years works for them. Earlier today, I had to return an item purchased in mistake. Parked in a handicapped spot was an older pick up with a stars and bars plate replacing the state plate. The back of the truck had numerous decals of stars and bars. I can speculate that he did not vote for an ethnic woman. I think there was some political undertow concerning race and gender of Harris.

I think that Biden did a horrible job at the border. It feels like he couldn't give two shits about it, until it was obvious that it was causing a political cost. While they had the public with them on women's reproductive rights, they most definitely did not enjoy the public's support over some LGBTQ+ issues. It is only common sense that the public dollar should not be used for any transgender treatments. It is also widely viewed that biological males that become transgendered women do not belong in women's sports.

It will get played back in a couple of years, and soon enough Trump will drift into lame duck status.

I'll close on some brighter news. Matt Gaetz is now free to resume the lifestyle he once relished.

If you are correct, my picks would be Gaetz, Gabbard, Hegseth, and Kennedy. I personally think Kennedy will make it. His views on vaccines and such resonate with the political right.
