Takedown Rossi build

I picked up a Rossi R92 in 38spl/357 mag. I had originally just intended on turning it into a takedown and leaving it at that.

I was talking to a gentleman about wildcats, and he brought up a neat little round that he had ordered a reamer for. It's called 30 Badger, and you just run a 38 spl case through a 7.62 Tok (30 Mauser) die to form it. It's a cool little round that will handle everything from 85 to 220 gr loads.

So, on with the process. I didn't get a ton of photos, I was pretty much winging it.

I started with an unturned 30 cal blank, 1:7 twist. I cut and threaded the tenon, chambered, and cut the secondary shoulder for the takedown plate.
Next, it got cut to 16" and contoured. All the dovetails and relief cuts were added after fitment.

Next the takedown plate and mag tube guide were attached and shaped, the forend was cut down and fitted.

The mag tube cap, takedown latch, and mag tube hander were machined out and installed. Of course there's always extra fussing and fitting.

The stocks got refinished and the metal cerakoted. I'm not really a fan of the color so that'll eventually get changed.

Thank you. Quality is hit or miss, I'd be looking for a Marlin or Henry first. Or an actual 92 of course.

If I could make a Rossi look like that I’d show it off, too!

The only one I bought (and will be the last) didn’t have a true 3/8 dovetail. I had to file that out and jb weld in a front sight, suffice to say it worked but wouldn’t make one of Paul’s threads!

They've used a lot of different dovetail sizes over the years, mostly metric.
