SXS or O/U

What's your preference when it comes to double barreled shotguns?

For me O/U...never cared for the sight plane of a SxS though I’ve got to admit my gpas old SxS coach gun is pretty cool looking.

It really depends on the gun and fit. Nothing beats a light well proportioned SXS for snap shooting when following dogs. But I usually reach for a heavier O/U for pass shooting doves, ducks, etc...

Awesome pics Shrapnel!

I have to agree. I have both, shot sporting clays with both, hunted with both, and shoot the over/under better. But man when you swing a double on a rooster it looks pretty cool to my eyes.

While there are some truly beautiful side by sides, i prefer an over/under setup while hunting.
Just my preference.
When i see side by sides, i mostly think short barreled coach guns.
Makes a definite impression when someone comes through your front door uninvited!
A "you picked the wrong house" statement!
Although the sound of a pump action being worked has the same universal message. Lol

SxS's. Had a Savage 330 O/U years ago I really liked but for the most part never was to up on O/U's. have 5 SxS's noe. 410, two 28's, a 20 and a 16. And one Ithica Mod 37 16 that I seldom shoot.

I have always shot my O/U shotguns better than my SXS shotguns. Better sight plane IMO. But... the SxS shotguns really tug at my heart strings.

I shoot the O/O better, but there just isn’t a comparison to the beauty of a SXS hammer gun with a downed bird...

Simply adorable images and hunting experience. I am a side by side fellow myself. I have a few vintage Ithaca 37 pumps, a 12 for turkey and a small frame 20 guage 37 for quail,,,but my Ithaca SKB SxS 3" 20 guage is really all I need. I have taken most of my wild turkeys with it, Chuckars, Grouse and love of all love, endless mountain quail.

I recall one day when hunting virgin Mountain Quail in the desert wilderness., these were the biggest MQ's I ever saw. I did a double after a real close flush,,,unhunted birds, So cool.

I started a post here about hunting with my less accuarate riflles,,,,I mean around an inch or under a bit is not shabby, but of course my stainless synthetiic rifles are much more stable and do a 1/2 inch or less. But so what.

Hunting is all about tradition,,,,if not,,,just buy the best meats,,,,even the most expensive is cheap compared to all the hunting hooplah costs.

Good on you sir for choosing such fine tools,,,,I hate it when hunting firearms are called weapons. I am not at war with wildlife.

Even better when the bird drops...
