Suppressor

This is really a non issue. If it has to be threaded 1/2, a $20-30 thread adapter solves the problem without adding any additional length

That is not true, where the shoulder is located changes, at least the width of whatever nut it has. Just google suppressor thread adapters and every single one pictured moves the shoulder. Why run an adapter if you don’t have to?

For example if she wants to run a thunderbeast ultra 5-9. There are issues with 1/2-28. It would cost her extra time, money, and length to be able to run it. The CB brake she gets with it won’t work. Currently, She would have to adapt it on top of the $1000+ purchase. Verses getting it 9/16 from the beginning and avoiding the whole issue.

I’m leaning on having Capitol Sports in Helena do the threading; I’m hoping that they would be aware of this potential issue and account for it. Also hoping that the suppressor I pick for my .270 would work just as well for the future gun I decide to buy. I will be asking them about all this too to have my bases covered, and appreciate everyone’s expertise. Still undecided on the can though, lol.

I guess you got me, it’ll add an 1/8 of an inch 🙄.

Forget any of the brake attach models and go 5/8 direct thread. If needed, you can thread 1/2 or 9/16 and run an adapter to 5/8. It’s a non issue

I was in the direct thread camp until forced to use a brake model. What I realized was that having the brake Locktited on the barrel threads saves the rifle. If there is an accidental drop/hit on the muzzle, the rifle threads are not exposed. I would much rather buy a new brake than send the rifle out to get rethreaded.

That’s what thread protectors are for…

My Nomad Ti and Scythe can both be 1/2 direct thread. No adapter. I’m sure several others can as well.

If you do something bad enough to damage threads on your rifle, you’ve probably got other problems.

Any suppressor with a standard hub ass end (most recent cans) can be.

Non-hub TBAC suppressors will make you use a thread adapter or aftermarket CB muzzle device. I’d prefer to avoid either of those but it’s not a big obstacle either.

Unfortunately lots of operations don’t really look for the best way to suit your needs if your application doesn’t fit in a specific set of parameters when it comes to muzzle threading. I’d consult the group here when you figure out what length you want to thread at and what suppressor you want to use to make sure you’re happy with the outcome.

I would seriously consider cutting the barrel down then threading. It will make wielding that 270 much nicer in the field.

I know that adding a suppressor will add a bit of length to it, and that’s why I’m in the market for another rifle. Just can’t bear to do that to the ol’ gal. It was hard enough coming to terms with threading it.

Here is a good place to find a deal. There are a lot of customs, but there are also a few factory gems in the listings.

This was my first year hunting suppressed and I never want to go back. I did a ton of research prior to purchase; I wanted the best performance I could get with minimum weight and length added. Unless you set hard numbers there, it's still a balancing game, but I wound up with the Diligent Defense Enticer S-Ti, purchased through Capitol Armory. Their process was great and the can ships to your door. PewScience had the S-Ti rated very well for the length/weight, and I had read lots of concerning QC stories about Dead Air which made me hesitant to go with the Nomad Ti. The DD can is also quite a bit cheaper than others in the class, which is a bonus. The crack when hunting with it is about the same as a 22lr.

I'm already considering another so I don't have to switch the suppressor between guns. Leaning towards the Resilient Jolene S, although there's a lot less info out there about them. A buddy just got the CAT JL which seems pretty awesome, but it's about twice the price. Hope to get out with him and shoot the DD and the CAT next to each other this spring.

And therein lies the problem with suppressors. You can't have just one. I have three .30 cal and three 22lr cans and want more.
What's worse is all those rifles and pistols in my safe that aren't threaded rarely see the light of day.
Next up is a can for my 358STA as it is threaded.

What’s your favorite .30 cal suppressor?

I don't really have a favorite. I think my gemtech Tracker sounds as good as any I have but it is heavy for a hunting rifle. I use it on heavy long range rifles. I have a Nomad Ti and a Scythe that are kinda the same but fit different purposes for me. I shortened and lightened the Nomad with a Scythe titanium direct thread hub and mostly use it on a SBR. The Scythe gets used on light hunting rifles where sound reduction is secondary to size and weight.

I have titanium 5/8 and 1/2 direct thread mounts for the Nomad and Scythe and swap as needed.

Suppressors are awesome. I’ve got a Dead Air Sandman S and the KeyMo system is sweet. I will buy a lighter titanium suppressor before next hunting season and I think it’s going to be the Dead Air Nomad Ti XC. Going to start chipping away at threading the rest of my rifle barrels. I agree with what everyone has said here. Way more fun to shoot and hunt with.

What has you leaning towards the Nomad, as opposed to the other titanium options?

I really like my Q Trash Panda. It is Ti so reasonably light and I have Cherry bombs on several rifles of different caliber and thread pattern so I can easily switch.
If I was picking a suppressor solely based on the name, Trash Panda would be up there. Outside of it Ti, does something stick out that you like?
