I'm curious as to why the choice of steel over a cement board such as Hardi Board?

I've had better luck with steel. I sided a Marriott in 1999 with HB cement board and didn't care for it too much.

Having been raised by abusive parents and my wife raised by loving over bearers it’s a bit of a balancing act.
I believe in tuff love and discipline but never want to be like my parents and have my kids question wether I love them; nor do I want my kids to always rely on me and take my love for granted like my wife and in-laws.

My boys high school basketball career ended about a month ago.
18ppg, 4reb, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. School record for made 3's, top 10 in points scored. 8th in the state this year for made 3's. 2x all conference 2x all county.
