Sunday Pic of the Day

8D612569-FCA0-4B12-92EF-94E2F896D3E4.jpegWent out for a Blacktail hunt yesterday evening , 2 and a half hour slow hike , around 3 miles , all I saw was 2 herds of Rosie’s out in the wide open sandwiched with a doe sighting in between.

1st herd had a small raghorn, But they feed behind a large hill , So I couldn’t tell if that was the tail end of the group or it was just a small herd of 3 or 4 elk , The second group what is 10 to 15 elk that had a stud 6 x 5 in the group at 360 yards away, I was able to get a couple grainy pictures through my binos , seeing some elk and some bulls in a 1.75 mile walk before I turned and hunted back to the truck made for an enjoyable evening, Typical Blacktail hunt takes weeks to turn up a buck but does an elk a plentiful

Hate that for you.
Although that's just a character bump there.
I hit a deer going 60 last week. It came off a bank and landed right in front of me. I didn't even have a chance to touch the brake.
Guess that's what insurance is for...

Our son's first moose rack. I called him in so it was tooooo cool be there with him when he harvested his first moose. Near 58" non typical. The antler on the right side was folded in half then continued to grow. This was a huge bull. I estimate his live weight at over 1400 pounds. In fact we just finished off the last package of burger from 2 years ago. Just in time too as we will have a couple hundred pounds of boned meat to process here shortly. We like to mix in bacon bits to the burger. Will also do up sausages. And when making burger I like to make up some large grind burger for chili n such. 20210317_081956.jpg

Note the thickness of the base that his hand is on is pretty thick. We use our coleman canoe for a freight sled. Best part was we didn't have to pack any moose.
This bull was harvested next to the pond in front of our cabin.
