Sunday Pic of the Day

My buddy John is out solo elk hunting this afternoon/evening

it’s almost 90 here today, and a young bull is beating the heat by laying in a small swamp pond, this is a 3 point area so all the young bulls get to relax without anyone flinging arrows their way

the story on the big 5 point bull he was alone and ignored John’s cow calls and some bugles, so rather than follow him in the timber , because it’s was an hour and a half hike out , John left him and will go back and try to locate him again this weekend

Couldn’t hunt the archery open because of my nephew’s wedding. Settled for a family picture instead.
Could have made that post myself, except my niece was the culprit. Can't believe you have kids old enough for what I see on the right. Congrats! I admit I am a little jealous of what you've got to look forward to there.

Monster Roosevelt Bull Rub , My hunting buddy John and I have known about an area where a Roosevelt Beast roams , We’ve had trail cameras in that area on and off over the last couple years he’s never stepped in front of one, last year during archery season I got within 30 yards of him , I couldn’t see him he was in crap so thick with his cows and he was snapping trees and making sounds and snorts that made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end , I’ve never heard an elk sound so mean and nasty and just demonic but , he’s still alive and we found another one of his rubs this year. I hope even if we don’t ever harvest this thing that we at least finally get to see him or a picture of it at some point, Until then one can only wonder he looks like

update , we think we finally got a glimpse of the mystery bull we’ve been chasing after for 2 and a half years but we’ve not decided 100% it’s him , His location this morning was about 3/4 of a mile from the trail camera and 700 to 800 yards from where I got into that draw with what we believe was the bull last season , John’s in hot pursuit , but it’s going to be a tall task ,the pictures are grainy , it was across the canyon at sunrise through a cell phone with Bino’s but you can get a glimpse of the quality of this Roosevelt stud

John got within 40 yards of the cows but he couldn’t see the bull and the cows winded him and they moved on on.

Classic pictures awesome
It’s a campground in Boardman Or, tiny little spot just off the interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge, great place to stop for the night, they water the lawns in this campground, and keep the place looking great , no tents or vehicles allowed on the lawns , beautiful place run by the town.
