I'm all for changing geographic names where appropriate, and have been involved in the process various times. This one is dumb as hell. The underlying principle of the Bureau of Geographic Names for establishing official geographic names or changing existing ones is recognition of present-day local usage or preferences. A friend told me he thinks it will go the way of Freedom Fries, and I think he's right.
