Stock color/finish for a stainless action and barrel - ideas?

Splurge for a Game Warden style carbon fiber & cry once...you won't regret it.
Not made for this action, unfortunately. I wouldn't mind spending $ on a quality stock for this gun, but a 4.27" blind magazine flat back Savage from 20+ years ago makes it tough to find stocks. There are a few premium stocks, but they are all target stocks and weigh 2.5-4+ lbs.

Quite an improvement. Those Kimber Hunter plastic stocks left quite a bit to be desired for sure. What paint and finish did you use?
Sand
Alcohol wipe
Self etching primer
Rustoleum sand textured paint
Marbleizing paint
Matte clear coat

Year 4 of hard use and it’s holding up well.

This is the main issue for Savage rifles or using them as the base of projects. Too easy to get to 10+ lbs or spend what the rifle is worth to get it any lighter.

That's funny because one reason I've stuck with Savage for so long is how light I can get them. My heaviest Savage is my 300 WSM with the magnum contour 22" barrel. In the newer stock, it only weighs 7 lbs. 3 oz. scoped. My other Savage rifles are 7/0 and 6/14 scoped.

They haven't made the 4.27" actions since 2006 and there are quite a few stock options nowdays for the 4.4's. If you get a Stocky's 4.4 sporter in CF, you can get a newer model 110 short action down to just 6 1/2 lbs. scoped and 6 1/4 with a carbon barrel. I've done it.

Welp, got another one to paint up now. My factory 2nds CF stock came in for my Superlite today.

Hopefully @Wild Bill won't mind me posting his thread here, but I thought he did a fantastic job on a Tikka with nothing more than a little Krylon and some paint splatter.

Wild Bill does good work, but I think his secret is out... "Story of the afternoon was: Football. Beer. Coat of paint. Repeat." :D

I like it. His workflow is surprisingly familiar. LOL

In the middle of a bedding job, but you get the gist. I hope you appreciate the effort. I’m in the middle of colonoscopy prep and risked walking to the basement for pics!😫

Hope that stone holds up better for you than it did me. It lasted one season. Barely n
Don’t know, it’s been on the shelf for 2 years. I did put 6 or 7 coats of enamel clear, feels pretty sturdy. I’m finishing this rifle this month. Time will tell. My process looks similar to your list, what do you see on mine that won’t hold up? I’ll try to fix it before I start using it.

Honestly the paint itself just seemed really soft. A friend had the exact same result as I did with it. We both did a clear coat over top too. It was wearing off halfway through the season.
