A buddy was offered an outfitted hunt or at ;least full access to the pvt land under lease if he would share his elk points with an outfitter’s would be client.

Do you know if the outfitters have a way to get the names and addresses of people with points? The last two years, the amount of wyoming outfitters that have contacted me is unreal

I'm not gunna lie.....if an outfitter contacted me to share my points and I had a free access to deer that were 160+ on ranches so I did not have to scout and they showed me where they were... I would do it...and I think many would...

It’s unchecked every time you look at it, even if you checked it years before.
I still get mail from the outfitters who got my info the one year I checked it.
Maybe it’s you and not the HT group that is the problem.

I'm getting that too but I'm getting phone calls and emails directly from outfitters asking me what my plans are for using my points. "you know the west general tag only took 5 points this year and you have over double that. you can come and hunt here and bring along a buddy that can party app with you and we can help you"

The whole point splitting thing is so shady. There’s big money involved with it. I personally know of some guys who pay huge money through “outfitter” to get hooked up with people splitting points. These people that split points with them never even use their tag. It’s a complete scam. Buy points every year and then cash out for big profit. Buy points for grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, kids, whoever and when they have enough points just sell/split with guys who are willing to cough up serious money. It reminds me of some black market deal or voter fraud. Hell, there’s probably dead people still buying points every year. Haha.

That isn't exactly true. The units taking max or near max points are still requiring that and you can't point share into those hunts. So that can't be what you are calling top tier then right?
I would venture to guess that the bulk of the point sharing with outfitters is for general tags which take about 5 years to draw. There are a lot of people with 9-12 points so the sharing is occurring in that range is my guess.

I don't remember what all of the fields were when I set up my kids wyoming accounts.
Is there a mechanism to prevent a person from signing up "fake" kids in order to apply for cheap points every year? I don't remember if I needed social security numbers or not.

My wife and I have both have 11 Elk and 11 Antelope points in Wyoming this year.
If someone said to my wife and I that they would offer us a hunt on a great private ranch in trade for half our points....we would likely take it. Who wouldn't? Funny thing is, we are not even looking for 350+" bulls. We would likely settle for 300" bulls.
Not the type of hunt we prefer but if someone approached us with the right deal, we would probably take it. We will likely have 1 chance to hunt Wyoming with these many points in our lifetime. Maybe a general tag after this. But the reality is, we will explore all options because there is a bubble of applicants directly behind us that you will not overcome in 20-30 years.
Our other plan pushes us into the jaws of the potential looming 90/10 DEA which is going to be pushed heavily and will be catastrophic for NR if it passes. We would prefer to be out of the Wyoming game when that happens.

There were a few outfitters this year asking for high-point holders to share their points so they could get more clients in the General unit they hunt out of. In exchange, they were offering deals on outfitted hunts.
Top tier wasn’t the best choice of words. I should’ve said really good hunts. Some of them have been type 2 tags on some trophy ranches. These don’t take tons of points necessarily but you need points nonetheless. The guys I’m referring to go every damn year and they are using this point splitting gimmick. They spend thousands just on the point split. There’s some shady stuff that is technically legal but it’s scamming the system for sure. And I’m not just saying this out of jealousy, I’ll admit I’m jealous of the “opportunity “ to hunt magnum bulls every year, I’m in a lower tax bracket than these dudes. I’ll keep on participating in the system like I believe it was intended to operate and wait my turn. When I look at my antlers on the wall I know I didn’t get them by scamming the system.

This other guy wanted to hunt with his nephew, but they didn't have enough points.
So, the guy and his nephew applied as a group of three and split the regular priced cost of the 1st guys tag and now they are elk hunting (and for cheaper than the special tag might I add).
The guy giving up his points has a tag and never intends to leave his home state. So, this is 100% for sure happening.
Also, I should mention that the guy and his nephew have decided to keep up the guys 6 deer and antelope points to use them next season as well.....
