Spencer's double rifle from the 1923 TV Series

Did any of my fellow 1923 watchers happen to catch Spencer disclosing the caliber of his double rifle in last night's episode? No doubt the rifle and caliber are correct for the period.

The .416 Rigby / 10.57x73mm is a rifle cartridge designed in 1911 by London based gunmaker John Rigby & Company, for hunting dangerous game. It is the first cartridge to use a bullet of .416-inch (10.57 mm) diameter bullet.

Okay, I had to look it up...

The.416 Rigby is a cartridge that produces a relatively stout recoil. It produces 58 ft-lbs of recoil energy with a 10-pound rifle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's roughly three times the recoil of a .270 Winchester.

I thought the .416 rigby was designed to specifically offer a similar alternative to all the Nitro Express cartridges, but in a bolt rifle, therefore cheaper?
Is has a rebated rim, which would seem really problematic in a double rifle with something trying to eat you.

Interesting point. I got curious so I looked around and there are in double guns in .416 Rigby. I wonder there's something different about the lockup and extractor design to account for the rim

It's actually not bad. It's a heavier rifle, but it's not terrible.

I shot some nuisance beaver with it a few years ago, just for shits and giggles (not allowed to sell them when they're removed for nuisance reasons). I could post a video, I had someone record it lol.

The better London houses were able to build doubles for the 416 rigby but, yes it was designed around a Mauser action originally. I’ve shot one elk with the 577 double I owned for a while. I learned that a700 grain lion tough soft point was designed to run north to south on a charging lion. It barely if at all, mushroomed in the rag horn I shot through the lungs.

A current production Rigby double will, without upgrades, set you back about 180,000 +or-. It is available in 416 Rigby.

Interested but not big on changing a lot. Took a quick look and there seemed to be some downloading and finagling to get Stremio working.

well, sit at a bench and regulate a double rifle in 416 rigby,,,, then take some time off to rethink your decision,,,
i had to do that a few times, much less sight in numerous scopes and open sight setups on cz bolt guns , i was dumber when i was younger,
still have a cz in rigby, havent shot it in 20 years,,,

Very, I paid 40 for a firestick and spent 20 mins setting it up. I can point you in the right direction if you're interested. There's 2 applications I use. One for live sports, or live TV, then one for any movie or TV show you could want!
