While we’re at it, per the Flag Code, you’re supposed to take a flag down at night or in bad weather, not make clothing out of it, alter it, etc. My inner Boy Scout cringes daily.

I have a series of pictures from during our fires nearly 2 years ago where the PG&E crewman stopped at my gate to spray retardant all around the post where my flag flys at our gate. He sprayed retarder around and on the post, the fire starts to overtake him so he evacuated. The next pictures show my flag blotted out by smoke then flames. When everything cleared my flag still stood proud! He was supposed to be spraying power poles to try and save the power lines. His actions meant more to me than almost any of the other help we got.
