Over the past year, I have been stockpiling supplies for a homemade smoker. This was one of those, "one day, I'll get to it" projects. But a few weeks ago, I was talking to a friend of mine that is a shop teacher. He was looking for a project for his welding class this semester. So I delivered my stockpile of junk and the kids started welding. Here are a few photos so far. It will be a 60" reverse flow smoker. Just big enough to handle around a 100lb pig whole. They still have to build a wood rack for the front, a rack for coolers, a shelf, and replace the coupler. Its coming along great though.

Two issues need to be resolved:
1.what will be the first cook?
2.what am I going to charge for a rental fee from all the guys that are already circling. case of beer, bottle of bourbon.......

Answer to #4, cold or free

That is a great resource that not a lot of people know about. I have had our local high school do a few projects for me in the past.

Looks like it is going to be pretty nice.

Took a 69 Chev muscle car to a high school shop class and turned them loose on it. Most fun I ever had with something like that. Let them run it in the high school drags. Kept it two years and made bank.

Great way to get the work done! Bravo! I wish I'd have taken to the time to take some machining/welding classes in high school.

Picked up the new smoker this weekend. I need to put another coat of paint on it, but so far so good.

Foxtrot1, what exactly are you smoking there? Looks good. An awesome rig for sure. Puts my UDS to shame.

That turned out nicely foxtrot. I have one about the same size and configuration...will need to remember your price list when the smoke signals beckon my buddies.

I'd say that worked out great for you. That is an awesome rig for sure.
The first car I ever go I bought from a car auction and it had been rolled and totaled out. I only paid $1,000.00 and the car was just a year old. Left it with the school auto body shop for a whole school year. I paid for supplies (about another $1,000.00) and when I got it back, it was like a brand new car. I kept it for 5 years and sold it for $5,000.00. They are a great resource for sure.
