Short and sad Alaskan summer.

The short:
Just got back home after just 2 weeks at my Alaskan cabin in PWS. Had to cancel my flight for 6/3 on 6/1 cause I fell off my deck I was working on and broke 3 ribs and punctured a lung. I was planning on staying the summer and wintering over.
The Sad:
Yeah Im sad about the short stay.
But its the sad state of salmon in the Sound. The creek beside my cabin empty. No pinks and a few coho showed up the day before we left.

I listened to the latest meat eater podcast and they were talking about how dismal the fishing has been in SE AK this year.

I question the doom and gloom for POW fishing being put forward by those on this thread and others I know on POW. 2023 was the best fishing year we have ever had in 11 years of fishing the east side of the island. This year we heard all of the poor reports regarding salmon before we went up. While there were not as many salmon as last year, we found more than enough, catching pinks, silvers, chum, and kings. A bonus is the kings were significantly bigger than we have caught in the past. Things cycle up and down. No complaints on our end and we brought back our normal amount of fish.

One need only to look at the ADFG website to marvel at the once great rivers being reduced or closed to retention to recognize there is legitimate concern over most of Alaska. That POW remains viable is indeed a blessing.
