Just an FYI, please keep comments respectful. Get your points across professionally, be firm but fair.

Thanks again.

Wyoming Chapter of Backcountry Hunters &
Anglers

SF 118, which would have authorized the transfer or sale of landowner elk, deer, and antelope licenses, is officially being tabled by the bill sponsor and will not be heard in committee.
Earlier this week, representatives from the state’s hunting community, including BHA's Chapter Co-Chair Buzz Hettick, met with the bill’s sponsor, co-sponsors and Game & Fish to better understand the sponsor’s reasons for bringing the bill.

The dialogue was productive, and emblematic of how we can come together in Wyoming to resolve differences and seek outcomes that benefit as many people as possible.

Over 650 BHA members and supporters took action to voice their opposition to this bill. THANK YOU

Wyoming’s generational ranchers play a vital role in sustaining wildlife. They provide essential forage, water, cover, and the open, connected landscapes that our wildlife need to survive. They also face real challenges maintaining viable productive operations. It’s imperative that landowners and hunters work together to develop new, innovative solutions to some of these challenges so Wyoming’s working lands, wide open landscapes, and agriculture and hunting heritage remain intact.

We thank Senator Pearson and the co-sponsors for agreeing to lay SF 118 aside in order to foster stronger collaboration between landowners and the hunting community. This will enable us to move past the polarization of this specific issue and identify strong and lasting solutions that will benefit hunters, landowners, and most importantly–wildlife. We are committed to supporting an interim study in the Joint Agricultural Committee to find collaborative solutions to make sure ranchers stay on the land and landscapes stay intact.

This would not have been possible without your support. Join BHA or donate today to ensure we can continue fighting for your wild public lands, waters and wildlife.

Thank you,

Wyoming BHA

Can you elaborate on what some of the solutions both sides came up with?

With many states facing similar bills one would think that people on both sides of the issue might be like “Hey, we had a similar bill to that and here are some solutions that we came up with that worked for landowners and the hunting community…bring them to the table and see if they will work for you guys too.” instead you say “What did you expect? Kicks to the face, ribs and such?”

I'm confident that folks in Wyoming are already thinking through the approach for the study and they are well connected enough regionally & nationally to call for support when needed. I'm also pretty confident the Wyoming community can forge some innovative solutions simply through kitchen-table diplomacy.

There is no need to spike the ball. Kudos to BHA for a professional and thoughtful acknowledgement of the sponsors willingness to pull a bill and sit down with others. We need more of this in our advocacy, not less.

Were the solutions discussed, Wy BHA member solutions or Buzz H solutions? If BHA member solutions, I dont recall getting asked what I thought were good solutions to this problem.

What was agreed to was brainstorming some ideas going forward.

The ask was for the collective NGOs that signed onto the initial letter to do exactly what you're implying.

Get with your membership, boards, neighbors, friends, etc. and bring some ideas back for later discussion.

As somebody said in that meeting, "if the solution was easy, we already would have done it".

If you have ideas now's the time to bring them up.

For the record, the GF offered up existing programs that could already be utilized, one of which I don't know about.
