Better work hard to pack in and get away from people. There's an access bottleneck in the unit and it's heavily hunted anywhere around road access.

Selway is unit 17. Hunted it in the 80's several times, haven't since '91 when I had a sheep tag - They used to kill 3-400 bulls/season - now only 80.

I once can in from a different direction, took long SxS drive then 3-4 mile crappy deadfall hike but was in beatiful country and never seen another person or even horse track but elk weren't there. Tough area found elk later but not in wilderness, more likely to kill a wolf than anything. Good luck neat place i want to go back to.

Hunted 5 years in the late 90's. Stopped when we saw more wolf tracks than elk. Absolutely some of the most beautiful and brutal country you will see. My advice, be in shape and even then it's gonna be tough. Best of luck
