Seekins PH3 7 Back Country

Fwiw I just got back home from the wild sheep show in reno. I stopped by and talked to the folks at seekins and must say i was impressed with the new stuff. Also they seem like a great bunch of guys which makes a person want to support their company.

I ended up ordering a hunter element as I had previously been eyeing the slam. They thought I'd probably be seeing it sometime in March

What made you go with hunter element over the element? The chassis? I’m between one or the other.

Yes just the chassis, like being able to fold it up and strap it onto my pack, keeps it nice and compact. It will be my go to rifle for backpack hunts but probably won't be using it on day hunts.

The element is a great gun also and if it were a gun that a guy may use still hunting through timber or something to that effect I think it would be better with the more traditional stock.

If you don't have a need for the folding stock then the element would be my choice.

Appreciate the insight. I think I’ll go with the element, as I will use this gun in many scenarios (treestand, out west, ground blind)

Yes, weight and chambering/model please.

Boggles my mind this still isn’t on the Seekins site. Facebook comments from several months ago saying they were waiting for final production of parts to update weights. 1/2lb heavier than PH2 is what I think based on YouTube interviews. I think the full length mlock may be overkill, just a place to mount an arca rail/bipod would have sufficed and likely saved 4-6 ounces. I realize not everyone is obsessed with weight though. Everything about the rifles seems very well thought out, the adjustable cheek piece looks top notch. Regardless, a new rifle like this demands to be handled before I buy. The element is likely where I’d be tempted but aluminum steel hybrid action seems odd to me with everyone else doing titanium.

On another note about the 7BC. It boggles my mind that in the Weatherby Mark V Backcountry Guide Ti the 7BC weighs .6lbs more than .280ai (5.8 vs 5.2pbs) and has a 2” shorter barrel. Seems another miss for 7BC, weight is king for backcountry hunters which is what this targeted towards. Over half pound is crazy. I emailed Weatherby to confirm and all they said was the 7BC has a 9 lug and the .280ai has 6 lug. Seems hardly enough to make .6lbs.

6.5 PRC 20" Havak, 7.3 lbs. Picked this one up from Scheels and have only seen the 6.5 CM and PRC thus far. There are a couple on GB plus a NRL. Likely a bit longer for the Element. Haven't decided on a scope. Was thinking a Leupold Mark 4HD until I looked at the reticle on a NF NX8. Now strongly considering a Trijicon Tenmile HX which I may purchase this week. Likely around 10 1/2 lbs loaded, scope and Banish 30. Anxious to get some rounds through the barrel and start dialing in load development.
