Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Seeking Advise

I would bet the cost of traveling (in real dollars) versus just being away would more than compensate that difference in pay.

And if he is only in MT 3-4 days a month he probably isn't even considered a resident by MT FWP standards anyway when it comes to hunting. There was an article in the Billings Gazette about 5 years ago where Over the Road Truck Drivers that got in trouble because they bought resident licenses and were not in the state for at least 6 months out of the year, even though they had a house in MT and used that as there place of residence.

Heres the link to the article.

I am already in Montana. That would be a pay raise for me, :). That being said, where do I apply!?... So my opinion is he needs to make himself happy. 60k a year over here is not bad at all depending on what he will be doing. He is in a decent position being single to be able to make the change. IMO I would already be over here. The longer you stay, the easier you will get locked down. I could use me as the perfect example but I wont go into that. If Montana would make him happier, tell him to get his @$$ over here soon so he gets his residency in before next season.

Well, it sucked at the time, but I'm glad I left Montana for ten years to save some money and get some experience. Ten years is nothing. Now I can live here without wondering if I'll eat next month and I also have the contacts to create my own business. I actually can afford to take time off.

But if he isn't saving money, getting experience, or making contacts he might as well come back. Nobody's grave ever said "I wish I pissed away everything I made when I was young and now I have to work 80 hour weeks to pay alimony to that lot lizard I met when trucking just because she decided that she hated Montana and wanted to move back to California where she grew up." ;)

Work it backwards...What are you being paid for the extra travel and time away from home

He is paid an extra $40,000 per year before taxes for his leisure time he can't use.
Basically $800 per week.

If he is living below his means and saving that money, then continue until family, leisure and home time value reaches that threshold.
