Commercialization of wildlife started decades ago, well before the internet even. It's the new normal now. Everything now is about views, visits, and collecting data. Wheter you agree or disagree its happened and is here to stay.

They have been doing this on every large whitetail that gets shot for years here in Ohio. I know an outdoor writer that has made a living off of writing up stories pimping the local large white tails, yet everytime I see him he talks about how bad the hunting is getting with the leasing and non resident hunters.

Nothing wrong with that. The very owner of this site puts hunting videos up on youtube for $$$$$$$$ and he if shot that animal or something similar I would hope he would do what he could to maximize his income potential. I will never fault a man or woman for trying to legally make money, whether that be through their main career or a side project.

I guess it matters who is trying to commercialize wildlife. Not in my mind Newberg has done the exact same thing just with much smaller animals. To me what a testament to Colorado deer and management unreal in 2018 with all the garbage in the hunting industry a 348 inch deer gets shot in Colorado. Good for them congrats to the hunter.

Commercialism is the way this industry makes a ton of mula.... like it or not a deer or any animal of that caliber regardless in today's day and age is gonna be judged somehow. That buck is truly incredible none the less and hopefully it doesn't take away from him the hunter or Colorado's management and genetics. Awesome buck and congrats to the harvester.

Awesome deer! Who gives a crap if he makes money off it or not. I'd take a sponsorship or give rights to a deer hunting story to someone if they offered me cold hard cash....hunting is an expensive habit I need the money to support that habit and any swag they offer! Lol

Supposedly a good friend of the Black Ovis folks. I bought Crispi boots from Black Ovis, just like the lucky hunter did, but ended up with a much smaller buck. I think I got ripped off.

A difficult subject for sure. But first off nothing but congratulations to the hunter.

It does seem staged in an era of know everything now to "release" a potential world record. My impression (for what it matters) is that if someone like Randy who has done a ton of work for conservation and the future of hunting scores an animal like this its a best case scenario because he has an established track record. He's not in it for the short term profit and free stuff.

Hopefully this hunter uses the limelight to spread a positive message. He deserves the chance and hopefully success like that came to the right kind of person.

It is a difficult subject because everyone has different ideas about what hunting should be. I've got a good job but some profit from a passion could probably go a long way for many people. It does sour it a little for me when you start to see perfectly positioned logos in every possible place. I'm fine with some commercialization but at some difficult to describe level its a turn off. Just like a lot of the whitetail shows where they're more farmed than hunted. I'm fine with food plots and your own place to hunt but again, at some level it takes away some of the magic.

A friend and I are dipping our toes into the outdoor videography/brand world. Seems like a fine line between what you can take and what you give away with sponsors and product. Hope we can use any opportunity we get to spread a positive message. There's a lot of people eager to be negative so I'm not going to be that person for this guy and his potential record.
