I’m taking off on 1/1 to start off the New Year right. My pup and I have hunted NV but never as north east as we plan to go. Our goal is to get into some huns and of course good dog work. We just got back from AZ last week, so it’ll be a bit of a weather change. Curious for those more familiar is there a shot for me to get into some huns around winnemucca or should I be staying further east towards elko. Either way it should be a good trip, I’ll let folks know how we do.
Cheers,
MV

Looks like an awesome trip! Upland hunting Northern Nevada is on my bucket list. You ever thought about hunt snowcock in the Ruby Mountains? I know it a bit of jog east of winnemucca but it's called the holy grail of upland.

I haven’t given it any serious thought, you don’t hunt them over dogs which is a bit of a nonstarter for me. I personally believe that ptarmigan in the lower 48 deserve that title. You hunt them with dogs and shoot them at 11-12k. I shot a few in September under those conditions.

I've attempted Ptarmigan before. As wierd as it sounds it wasn't a real serious attempt. My wife's a rock nerd so I took the dogs a look did a little walking around while she was rock hunting. I'm most definitely going to do it again and dedicate more time it. It was good to find some good access points.
