Killed my deer with a synthetic and stainless rifle this year, but I love wood. I’ve hauled my old .270 up a lot of mountains and slept in the tent with it on backpack trips. It’s what I carried sheep hunting this year too.I have found it nice to build from the same platform. It’s just nice to have everything operating the same with the same trigger.
When I was building them I thought I wanted Mcmillian and other composite stocks. I miss the feel of a wood stock. I’m slowly switching back.
I think about it a lot. It was a purpose built rig and if I ever draw one of those type tags again, I wonder if I will miss it...keep it
You will, and it's near impossible to sell anything for replacement cost.I think about it a lot. It was a purpose built rig and if I ever draw one of those type tags again, I wonder if I will miss it.
....weight?I have a 300 PRC that is a custom build on a 700 platform. It is an amazingly accurate long range bomber. If I had to shoot across canyons I would absolutely use it. I’ve killed several elk with it and it’s just deadly.
Problem is I don’t shoot across canyons. Also not particularly fond of carrying it. I built my son a wood stocked 280ai mountain rifle and fell in love.
I have a 260ai that I am in love with as well. It shoots just shy of what a 6.5 PRC does. It will easily kill an elk.
So I’m struggling on what to do. I’ve been working with @p_ham on building a 30/06 to match the 280ai of my boys. But I don’t know if I really need it and the costs have gone up so much on a donor it’s not practical. So what to do…
The #1 urge is starting to spread.Love Rem's but they don't make #1's.
I fell in love with them the first time I held one at a gun show...think they were just under a grand, but well above my means at the time. The #1 urge is starting to spread.

8 lbs scoped....weight?
IMO perfect for a 300...recoil about like a WSM?I think about it a lot. It was a purpose built rig and if I ever draw one of those type tags again, I wonder if I will miss it.
8 lbs scoped
It sends a 175 LRX around 3200 if I remember right. It’s a little stiff without a brake or suppressor.IMO perfect for a 300...recoil about like a WSM?

With the suppressor it shoots nice but 3-4 shots you can cook an egg on it.
I don’t remember, think 25, but it’s been a while. I had it cut to just fit in the safe and keep as much FPS as possible.bbl length?
You mentioned a suppressor...I don’t remember, think 25, but it’s been a while. I had it cut to just fit in the safe and keep as much FPS as possible.
Yep, I can knock grouse out of the tree when it’s assembled without firing a shot. You mentioned a suppressor...
Funny, I can remember the first one I saw as a kid, late 80’s, our local barber got one in .22-250. I remember it looking just classy, no other way to describe it.I fell in love with them the first time I held one at a gun show...think they were just under a grand, but well above my means at the time.

I didn’t have a suppressor when it was designed. Now I do and I ordered it where it would work on it.
Oh, I’m shopping. Don’t you worry about that. It’s not an urge, it’s calling to you. Don’t ignore it. You need it!
