True that’s technically the law, but my understanding is that up to last year FFLs at least here in Oregon wouldn’t do that. The FFLs dealers are obviously federal licensees, and if they inadvertently release a firearm after 3 days of no BGC response, they could get in trouble with the BATF. And from a practical standpoint could get civilly sued if the purchaser was a felon or DQd from ownership

But…

We’ve had like 10 gun control threads on ht. I’m pro 2A if you actually read them. The point I tried to make is that there was a big pivot point on this issue. No one calls Reagan a commie, but he basically had the same stance as dems today.

So when having the discussion maybe consider that fact, maybe folks on the other side of the issue aren’t anti-American, maybe their view on guns just hasn’t evolved much since the 80s.

The other point I tried to make is that the often gun owner’s arguments are undermined by illogical statements and factual errors. We all actually know what an assault weapon is, arguing that just makes you look silly, focus on actually arguments.

I made this case on another thread in detail, but my personal opinion subject to change is that I think the NRA should work to create an optional “TSA precheck” kinda program with states. Essentially let law abiding folks like us jump through a bunch of hoops and then get to conceal carry, own, buy, and sell firearms and suppressors in an expedient manner.

For instance you do the process you get a card, you can buy a rifle from midway and have it shipped to your home and then sign for it at your door. No FFs, no wait period etc.

Privately operated system, not a requirement.

You aren’t going to “solve” guns in America but you can come up with compromises that benefit both sides.

First step is not painting everyone who disagrees with you as a Nazi.

I started following Busse on insta after the first thread about him to get a better since of him.

It’s a completely rational argument actually. I think we should require tests and a mental competency test to exercise the first amendment right to post on social media.

I can’t remember where I read it but I saw where the number of deaths, especially suicide, in our younger population that was attributed to social media was extremely high. The amount of bullying, shaming, etc that occurs online and then results in something drastic happening is a huge problem.

I know that seems outlandish but maybe actually having restrictions on sm content would help with various problems.

Yep more (but not all) FFLs have been doing that here in Oregon since 114 passed and the background check queue for people had ballooned to over 20K people. Some FFLs had no place to securely store all those sold firearms while waiting for BGC to clear (days weeks over 30 days)

And some FFLs would release after 3 days if for example the buyer was a repeat customer, and/or had a valid conceal carry permit.

Not that this would get anywhere (due to privacy, constitutional and other issues) and I'm not advocating this, but one approach would be to require all purchasers (or, people in some states applying for a "permit to purchase"), to allow LE access to their social media accounts. Then LE could have AI give them all a one over, reviewing all posts and providing LE with an "assessment" of whether the person should be cleared to own a firearm. Fun times
