So you don't have background checks at your hardware store? It's the law. The FBI does the checking. Should we do back to back? Maybe back to back to back? 4 maybe?
The background checks are a joke. It’s all paper based. And if they get behind and the check can’t be done in the time window, you get the gun anyway. Very few of the offenders were rejected in a background check. As a law-abiding gun owner, which im sure we all are, the background check shouldn’t be a concern or be view as some violation to the 2A.

Can we require 10 days to post an article? 10 days for women to vote? It doesn't violate their rights at all
Purely ignorant argument. They are not comparable in any way. You’re reaching, which just shows you are having trouble in a legitimate debate on the topic.

So, we let the smartest amongst us set up a system, they failed, so we should of course, let them set up another system.

It's 2023, not 1980. Only the FBI and Fish and Game are still using Apple 2c

And honestly, none of those keep me from owning. They’re restrictions I can overcome. A 10day waiting period doesn’t violate my rights at all.
Partly joking, but good thing you’re not on the receiving end of a domestic violence relationship where you’ve got a restraining order against the agressor and moved out, and theyre in jail but due to be released on $250 bond, saying they’re going to kill you this weekend. If you’re in some metropolitan areas, calling 911 means nothing you’re on you’re own. (Defund the police and “new progressive” DAs are to thank for that.)

Hopefully the new Washington firearms law provides to protect the victim in the above hypothetical (to obtain a firearm if that’s what they choose) but I don’t know.

I don’t think you have any idea what you are talking about (Much like the OP on Busse not being willing to answer questions.) There are laws in place that prevent a centralized database. So the system was created in the best way it could be, pre computers as we know they today. If you are interested in allowing the creation of a database that could clear a person for gun purchase in minutes, please contact your congressional reps. I could support that. Anything that weeds out the crazy is good.

Some article I posted a few pages ago discussed how the NCIS system can be strengthened.

Hunter B agrees that those forms are a joke lol! (Allegedly)

All that happened in a 10day window? Wow. That sucks.bad picker I guess.

Yeah. Is there a ranking on which of the amendments is most important? Seriously.

I legit have a loaded gun in my truck for a decade. A loaded gun in my house for 3 decades.

Not a single time has either committed violence. They don't load themselves, nor do they pull there own trigger.

The most dangerous places are states with severe gun control laws.

If guns =death, the most dangerous places on earth would be S E Idaho. Heavily armed states in every border.

Why 10 days? Why not 14? Or 9. Is there some data point showing crazy wears off at 10 days? Why not 60? 32.7? If an AR has a 9 shot mag, are those 9 dead less dead because it wasn't 10? These regs are silly, and feel good crap.

Gifford's of course, doesn't play. They aim to end gun deaths by banning ALL guns. Not just plastic ones. Not 7 shit mag ones, not ones with 18" barrels.

ALL.

I'm not. I've been pretty clear. I don't trust the government. Neither did the dudes who wrote the 2A.

Holy shit! I jumped into this thread 15 pages ago to say this literally isn’t true. I’m out in your posts. You can’t keep up and it’s frustrating me.
Definitely not a problem lots of folks let out because jail is inhumane
Bull. They are let out because we don’t want to pay to build more jails. I would rather work on keeping the (alleged) domestic violence offender from having a gun than making sure the victim can get one quickly. But I also admit there is some people that would falsely allege domestic violence where it didn’t exist. Therein lies the problem. More guns don’t solve any of it.

Regarding trust it can affect both sides. I probably said this before because I like to hear myself talk, but after the new firearm control ballot initiative passed here in Oregon, some people “on the left” (trying to be nonconfrontational here), were worried about the provision that local law enforcement are in charge of determining whether someone could obtain a “permit to purchase” a firearm.

They don’t trust local LE and believe they’ll be denied the right to own a firearm, for improper but unstated reasons. Eg, maybe an LE did a google search of the applicant and didn’t like their Reddit posts.

I get what you’re saying, but the false allegations of domestic violence is why red flag laws can be problematic. (Maybe you were inferring that.)

A domestic violence offernder can kill someone with any other weapon

Edit to say there’s a new wave of district attorneys who won’t enforce the law. And there are nonprofit groups who post bail for offenders.

From February 2023:

The Portland Freedom Fund, which last month posted bail for a man who is now accused of killing his ex-girlfriend while out on bail, is prepared to pay Mohamed Adan’s full $20,000 security amount that prosecutors are seeking, the fund’s co-founder Amanda Trujillo said Wednesday.

A week after the fund posted 10% of Adan’s bail, police found the mother of his children, Rachael Angel Abraham, 36, strangled to death and stabbed in her Southeast Portland apartment. Adan, 33, is now in custody, accused of murder and strangulation.

****

Adan had been arrested Aug. 10 on a warrant alleging he had cut off a GPS monitor and entered Abraham’s townhouse on July 26. He faced the no-contact order, a family abuse protective restraining order and additional allegations of strangulation and attempted assault against Abraham from earlier this year.

Before Adan’s release, Multnomah County prosecutor Mackenzie M. Ludwig had alerted the judge to what she described as “significant lethality factors” involving Adan in arguing to keep Adan in custody. Those included, she said, an increase in the severity of Adan’s physical violence, his alleged threats to kill Abraham, who had recently left him, and repeated violations of court orders including ditching his GPS monitor.

Edit to say I’m taking the thread off track. Also credit to this DA who argued to keep the guy above locked up

My bad, youre right Wash DC is a district, not a state(yet)

I think you highlight an important chasm in the gun-control vs. gun-rights discussion. Many in the gun-control camp do not believe people have any sort of inherent right to self-defense or defense of loved ones. Hence the wave of safe storage laws in many states that render many firearms useless in a defensive scenario. I recognize that many gun owners have to balance this with keeping firearms out of the hands of children and others. In a modern society, some believe we have a duty to retreat when faced with a threat to our lives or loved ones. In theory we are to be pacifists, left at the mercy of violent criminals. I don’t personally ascribe to this logic but it renders ineffective the domestic abuse reasoning against waiting periods with many gun control advocates.
