Remington custom shop barreled actions. $400

All my bolt parts (firing pins, ejectors, extractors, and bolt stops) are supposed to be here by the end of the week. I still need an extractor (turns out the bolt I thought was a remmy was @ImBillT). I was looking at another bolt when I said it was cut for a Sako. I haven’t been able to find any factory extractors yet. I’ve got two stocks painted and bedded. My gunsmith is 6 mos. out, so I bought a mini milling machine and am going to do my own side bolt releases. Mill arrives Monday, hopefully by Tuesday I‘ll be comfortable with it and start milling the slots and pin holes. If I can’t find the factory extractor I guess I’ll mill it for the m16 as well. Outside chance I’ll be able to shoot one Wednesday. I have ammo loaded for two and am in middle of brass prep for two more calibers.

Oops, forgot the chambers. Still have to be finished, reamers are on the way as well. Wednesday is probably too optimistic.

Got any pics of those bolts? PT&G makes bolts with Remington handles and extractors. ANND they shipped me one that is defective AAANNND still have not YET made it right.

Defective how? Typical PTG quality. Their M70 bottom metal is about all I would buy from them anymore.

I'm never ordering from PTG again. I had a really bad experience and sounds like I'm not alone...

I ordered a Model 7 in May. Received a Model 700 in August. Told them they mixed up and they said they would send me a return label for the Model 700 and ship me the Model 7 I ordered.
In November they told me it turns out they never had the Model 7 at all!! I was sick of it at this point and demanded a refund for their screw-up. It took them another couple of months to issue me a return shipping label. I returned the incorrect rifle and they went radio silent on me for a number of weeks about my refund status.

I finally got in touch with a helpful lady from the billing office and FINALLY got my refund. Stan and the rest of the crew were horrible to deal with.
I would send a number of emails that wouldn't be answered. Eventually, weeks later I would get a response but no action. Just a bad bad experience with PTG.

Welded the bolt handle on so far out of time that it literally has ZERO primary extraction on the open, and most likely does not fully engage the locking lugs before the handle hits the receiver on the close. It makes RR prefix bolt timing look wonderful.

I described the issue to Stan, who had me ship it to them for repair. It originally came with a lightened bolt shroud and firing pin. They shipped it back to me with an invoice that said “clean and inspect bolt”. They had not fixed anything at all, BUT they swapped out the bolt shroud for one that was full size and the firing pin for a full diameter steel firing pin. That was a head scratcher. I then emailed Stan pictures and called him, and he said he would send me a new bolt within 1 week. It’s been almost another month. Still no bolt. Stan’s latest line was that it would ship today and I would have a tracking number in my email this afternoon. It’s getting late in the afternoon. No tracking number thus far.

I’ve been trying to hold back on posting complaints until they send a new bolt but this is getting kind of ridiculous.

Typical PTG! I send all bolts to Dan at Accutig. Timing comes back awesome. Money well spent.
That first bolt doesn’t look to be timed that well either but much better than the other one.

I don’t really care to pay for a PT&G bolt and then pay for someone to correct it.

The other bolt is an older factory Remington, and while it only gets about 85% of the cam on the receiver before it’s all the way open, it works very well just like all the older Remingtons did. Of my RRs, I only have one that actually gave me trouble with loads that do not show pressure signs. Yes it kinda drives me crazy that Remington suddenly started making their bolts with such bad timing, but since they functioned fine for me with proper pressure loads I never got too worked up about it. When I finally got one that gave trouble with loads that didn’t show pressure signs, I ended up just MIG welding some extra material on the cam surface of the bolt handle and regrinding it with a carbide bit. Is it as good as a TIG? Technically no, but it working just great.

This one from PT&G is so bad that I’m concerned with locking lug engagement, so it would require removing the bolt handle and installing a new one, AND I don’t want to have to repair a PT&G bolt that I paid for the way that I’m willing to do a little bit of work to a basic factory Remington bolt.

I won’t order from PTG again. Ordered firing pin and bottom metal before thanksgiving and magically my “end of December” shipment didn’t come until March….. and it wasn’t even what I ordered.

Needless to say I have what I need to piece it together.

PTG is a shit show

I like that stock. Where’d you get it?

Completely agree. Hopefully PTG will get you a bolt that actually works but what I’ve seen from them it’s probably not going to be timed very well.

The stock I’ve been working on is finally dry enough to test fit. Still have to bed it, scope base screws are too long and don’t have any trigger pins. Just wanted to see what it’s going look like. Also a pic of a future end user.

Very nice!! What stock is that? Interesting way they ended that fluting also.

Just placed my reamer order. Is there any disadvantage to ackley improved? I’ve got to rent reamers anyway, and was wanting something a little more “custom” for resale. Only drawback I can think of is dies, I already have saami dies for calibers I ordered: 6mm, 257 Roberts, 7-08

It’s a BC ti I bought from brockel. I just finished repainting it, still lack about 4 more coats of matte clear, and then bedding. I’m very pleased how it turned out, 4 different paints to get the color and texture combination. I just got some marbling paint I ordered, but I think I’m going to stop and try the marble on another. It looks how I want it to now.
