I also worked with a guy (& a hunting buddy), who has been kind of semi retired while living off the proceeds from a lawsuit against his former employer (Tesla), for doing the kind of things he's doing with the federal government now.

The IRS is drafting plans to cut its workforce by as much as half through a mix of layoffs, attrition and incentivized buyouts, according to two people familiar with the situation.

The layoffs are part of the Trump administration’s efforts to shrink the size of the federal workforce through billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency by closing agencies, laying off nearly all probationary employees who have not yet gained civil service protection and offering buyouts to almost all federal employees through a “deferred resignation program” to quickly reduce the government workforce.

A reduction in force of tens of thousands of employees would render the IRS “dysfunctional,” said John Koskinen, a former IRS commissioner.

My accountant Uncle and Bro in law say they don't see any impact on most returns as a lot of that process is automated--this year. They have no idea how this can be anything but bad in the long run though.
 
The whole thing sounds like a timber company CEO's wet dream. The lack of NEPA review could be a benefit but also an opportunity for abuse. The main questions might be do we have enough timber workers to cut the tress, enough mills to turn it into usable lumber, and enough construction to turn that into a house?

They will just offshore them. With a tariff we pay. China has mills.
They did not shut the mills due to an owl. They did not want to pay millworkers $16 hr or benifits.
