Public land…🤬

People suck everywhere.

Most of my poor experiences have been with the local hunters. Whether it's here in MN or out west.

Type 1 BMA in MT this September there was a road on one of these ranches leading up to the foothills of a wilderness area. The designated parking area was about 3 miles away. Walking the closed road made it easier to get back in there. A truck with 3 locals (talked to them, they live about an hour away) came driving by. I asked if we were allowed to drive down the road and his response was "no, we're not supposed to, but we don't care".

I had a guy drive a four wheeler through the woods yesterday afternoon to take a ladder stand down past where I was hunting. This was around 4 in the afternoon. It’s an expensive ticket if caught driving an atv on the national forest I hunt on.
I called the game warden for the area and he said it was the Federal Ranger’s that deal with that, but there wasn’t one assigned to our area. So I guess we can basically do whatever we want there!

Hopefully you took photos of license plate with identifiable features in the background and ideally with GPS location and turned them in to local law enforcement. Without some kind of repercussions they will do it again, and so will their friends. My two cents.

This is what I do. Makes for some intense situations sometimes but I don't care anymore. I turn in any illegal activity I see. mtmuley

I use an app called Solocator for work. It includes the lat/long on the picture.

Saw this when I went out a few weeks ago. Zero percent chance you couldn't track this animal in this area. Pretty disheartening. I also saw a lot of aggressive people out and a lot of road hunters. I also ran into a lot of nice people. I like talking to people and hearing what they saw and what they are doing. Although, I never take spots and I don't factor in secondhand accounts, rather just learn something on my own.

I try and follow common sense etiquette. I don't like being aggressive about spots, if I am near someone while I'm out I just turn and go the other way. If they want to talk and tell me what they are thinking of doing, cool, I'll do the opposite. Recently my A, B, and C spots in an area all had a car parked by them. I said oh well and hit my super backup plan, which I suspected might be better with the pressure anyways and that's how I landed my elk. I don't road hunt and I don't like playing the ag game personally. Takes me out of the hunt.

Slob hunters abound here in Montana. And guess what ... they are mostly LOCALS. You know they're locals by the county number prefix on their plates. Caught a local yesterday leaving a gate down on block management property and driving in past the orange sign that says no vehicle access. Fat bastard could hardly stuff himself behind the pickup steering wheel. Driving a crappy old two-wheel drive outfit tearing up everything. Coupla bums. I closed the gate and added a bunch of "reinforcement" wire to the latch. Extremely cold. I made sure it was not so easy for him to get out of there. Guess he got the message. I checked later and he closed the gate when he left. And yes, cows are on that range.

Then at the Wood Bottom on Marias River I find my bird dog munching on a "gutless method" mess (f*cking bullshit!!)... not twenty yards from the road ... and obviously a fawn by the size of the ribcage. Hide left indicates mule deer. Mule deer fawn/doe are only legal this year on PRIVATE land (more Gianforte nonsense but there it is). Wood Bottom is federal BLM. What kinda slob couldn't pick up a fawn and carry it twenty yards to his vehicle? I would bet my paycheck the guy had #2 county license plates. Yeah, slob hunter arseholes are everywhere these days.

Look at this mess. Same property where the guy left the gate open. Someone shoots a buck way back away from the road. Then cuts off the hind quarters, head, and sorta hacks off at least one front quarter around the armpit leaving most of the shoulder ... and the BACKSTRAPS. Probably left the tenderloins too. Critters had long cleaned out the ribcage. Leaving the backstraps!! Where did that imbecile get his hunters training?

Last year in the fall I was floating some rivers with a buddy of mine (yes I was looking for leftover antlers and scouting in the fall). The area we were in floods very regularly (so would be legal to be on). Right next to a tree stand that was maybe 20 yards from a private fence, was a fairly big, old 4 point buck. Heavy, wide frame, don’t know anyone that would be upset over that buck. Upon inspection there was a perfect bullet hole in its chest with a large exit on the other side. Right next to a tree stand. Fairly fresh too. Not sure what happened there but sad to see.
