Project 2025.....

What home projects or honey dos are you planning this year?

I have a couple of pallets of firebrick in the pole barn that I plan on turning into a wood fired fast-fire kiln so I can get back into high fire ceramics.

I was invited to pick through a couple of deceased potter's studios and walked out with the bricks and around a ton of high fire clay, as well as about a ton of glazing materials, colorants, etc.

I'll need to build a covering for it, but it should be able to hit cone 11-12 in about 10 hours (instead of 24-36 hours).

I just got construction complete on basement remodel a couple weeks ago, celebratory beers were had...over the last 2-3 years I've done a full basement remodel, remodeled my kids bathroom, hired a contractor for a major remodel of kitchen and main floor and replaced a failed walk-in shower in our master bath.

Time for a break...

Planted 3 new fruit trees and 3 blueberry bushes this week. Also have an order in with the local soil and water conservation district for an assortment of native trees that I pick up next weekend.

Need to replace a bathroom sink. Need to do some exterior detail painting that never got done when we built the house several years ago. Need to tear down the old house that I've never dealt with. Need to tear down an old barn that has now become a hazard. Need to mow out lots of blackberries so the elk have grass to eat when they come in on the back of the property. Probably get to help my wife move her bees to a new location that she likes better. If my wife sees this thread, she will add more stuff.

Raising a newborn first and foremost. No major projects at home this year. Worked my butt off to get things done in anticipation.

The only big thing I think I have planned is repairing a bunch of fence to keep cattle where they belong and make crossings easier for the wildlife. I thought there were arrangements in place to take care of that but I wouldn't bet on that now.

In the off chance that work is still planned by the couple of entities involved, I'm gonna see if those resources can be reverted elsewhere and I'll just do it.

I put a 24' x 40' shop on my property with a shed roof on one side. Didn't want to go larger because I knew it would just mean I would put more " stuff" in it. Now the current one is full.🤔
Let's say I'd like to build an over-sized garden shed now. The double sets of tires for 3 vehicles is really bugging me. Maybe a shed roof off the side so I can get the boat out of my shop.
Yeah, too much stuff.

Long list here but the highlights are: new kitchen sink (old one cracked) addressing the little irrigation well in the back yard, seeding new grass in the back yard, laying in a patio.

Snowplowing season appears to be mostly over.
Change the oil, transmission fluid, differential fluids on the ATV.
Break in the new 60hp four stroke outboard on the boat as soon as there is open water.

Not much different. I’ll plan more than I can get done. One main remodel project for the garage, and one set of vehicle changes.

Have had a guy out here with one of those big high powered landscape pulverizers on a big tracked skid loader chewing up small trees and brush all last week. Cleaned up about 5-6 acres of stuff that had encroached on pastures. Will reseed these areas with prairie grasses.

Replacing the kitchen sink and lake property and may also paint the exterior of that place.

Went through our winter home in Tucson with new plumbing fixtures. When we get back to Oregon first of April it’ll be mud season so I’ll be getting ready for cattle, fix winter damage and get more aggressive on fire hardening our place. Daughter will have lots of farm chores for me but that’s just standard.
Retired from guiding two years ago but will head back to Alaska this summer and let someone else run the boat and fillet the fish.

What are the specs on the slab?

I am putting up a similar 12 footer for my daughter (stock tank panels).

The slab was already under the bin. It appears to be about 12-16” thick and reinforced with whatever scrap metal my grandpa could find laying around the farm.

I remembered that I also have about 800 trees ordered for this spring, so those will need planting. I’ll have a few more fruit trees coming to finish up the orchard I started last fall. I have a few prescribed burns planned as well. I have to paint the south side of the house and my wife just informed me that I’m refinishing our dining table.

Bought all the insulation for the shop, going to put up insulation on all walls from the floor (concrete) to ceiling. The ceiling will be sprayed. Immediately following I'm putting in a big loft, the underside will serve as a work area. Electric ran and will be heated via propane. Never installed a propane heater but good thing I know a semi-pro HVAC feller @Wyhunter

All hopefully to be done this summer. That's if I have a job after Project 2025...
I can't wait to inreach you with my elk in a hell hole.... I might even pass on closer ones to the road

Last summer I built an office for my wife, this summer I might start framing the basement if we don't move. Here's the office

Want to insulate the cold room better, spray in insulation in the attic, install a gate in the fence we built late last fall. Have a couple other things that I think I’ll have to hire out. We will see how much gets done over summer.
