PITA law?

Hello all,

First post here, and I was wondering if maybe you guys could clarify something for me. My new TV/ internet subscriber came with the "outdoors channel". I am not a hunter, but I truly enjoy watching people practice a God given right. In fact, I have been watching nothing but this particular channel since we got the package 2 weeks ago

Having said that, I noticed that the shows limit the amount of times they show the shots/ arrows hitting the target. Why is that? Is there some sort of law against showing the hit?

To be honest, I would love to learn to hunt someday. It just hasn't been in the cards for me yet. My family and I practice target shooting, but have never been hunting.

I watch the channel simply because it's educational and the shot placements are important in order to understand proper and ethical hunting in my opinion to those of us who haven't experienced it. Limiting the amount of viewing seemed strange, especially considering the fact I chose to pay for this particular package.

There was a recent scare with a Supreme Court case concerning video'ing and photo'ing the death of animals as cruelty. It turned out good for the hunting industry as it was shot down 8-1. I think that some libs were trying to tie hunting shows in with pervs that get off on watching mice be stomped with bare feet or some kind of sick stuff.

I don't think these channels or the shows and sponsors want to rock the boat and fuel the anti's agenda any more than they already do.

If you are interested in learning about hunting, you have come to a good place. There are a bunch of people on here who are willing to give advice.

About the shots hitting the target, Outdoor Channel has very strict guidelines about what they allow the shows to display. I don't remember exactly, but I believe they don't allow replays of shots, don't allow excessively bloody shots, and nothing that they consider as "inhumane."

All episodes go through a screening process to make sure they don't violate anything in the guidelines.

After reading some of the posts that addressed my question I realized the sensitivity level of this particular issue with some folks. It was a co-worker that had told me he thought it was something p.i.t.a had addressed and subsequently the law tailored to their request.

It's interesting you mention they do not allow re-plays of the shots, because that's kinda what got me wondering. As a hobby, I shoot archery with all of my own crafted equipment. I have been making my own bows, quivers, and bracers for the past 6 years. There is no way to avoid sooner or later someone telling you about Ted Nudgent.

Last week he had an episode where he showed the shot several times....and when on and on and on about how, "magical","spiritual" and "cosmic" that shot was. Don't get me wrong...I love the guy, and I think he's awesome....but I also know he loves to rile those people who cook up these stupid rules. It was so blatant I figured I had to ask what the deal was. If Ted was firing away....there had to be a reason behind it. No other show, showed the shots that many times lmao. That's what prompted this post

I should have used "bread" instead of Crap, maybe it would have been funnier play on words ?!?! It was a tossup to how I felt, and what would be funnier..... Usually the funnier wins. I'll try harder next time
