It was more of a frontal shot, he was facing slightly left. I should have taken photos but the hammer hht absolutely exploded the back shoulder. The entrance hole was between the shoulders. The wild thing that we ended up finding the bullet back on the inside of the passenger side hind right under the skin by his pecker. We were worried the guts would be exploded but they weren’t even leaking. Not sure how any of that happens but pretty wild. View attachment 349762

Just realized I forgot the last part of the hunt, the third deer. We pulled the buck out of the slough and took those fancy sunset pics! @SwaggyD took some awesome pics.

We started walking back to the truck, standing in the middle of the field to go Jill a doe in a different spot. We were almost to the tree line when we looked back at the end of the field about 600 yards away. Two does came out into the field. It looked like a yearling and a fawn. Swaggy thought they were going to stay that distance so we slowly made our way to the long grass and sat down behind 4” diameter cottonwood branch about 12” off the ground.

I started setting up on my tripod incase they turned and remembered my missed shot off the tripod. I went prone and used the branch to get above the field dikes a little bit. They started feeding into the field, 300 yards and feeding. I could see the top 2/3 of the vitals and split the difference. One shot and it was down at the edge of the field.

Went and got the truck and loaded them straight into the pickup. And in a moment of honesty I’m gonna admit that swaggy gutted all me deer. I always do gutless and it’s been about 5 years since I’ve gutted an animal. I guess I was taking to long and doing it wrong on the first one and he jumped in there and showed me how it was done.

Got the deer back home, got them skinned and watched the beginning of Monday night football during dinner. Went out, and got the skull fleshed out, all of the deer 1/4ered and into the cooler before the fourth quarter of the football game.
 
We were both on the same page man. When you get invited to hunt a property that someone has permission on you hunt it however they say. We both were holding out for a stud and it didn’t happen with our limited schedule. I’m glad he made me wait. I saw a ton of deer and all age classes of bucks, got to learn about tendencies and patterns, the challenges of wind direction with river bottom white tail, and at the end of the day we were having a blast. I’m glad it lasted till the last possible hours of the hunt.
As a kid starting out I always shot the first deer I saw. About the time I was 16, I started passing deer all of archery season. Learned more that year about deer and how to hunt them, probably then the previous 5 and next 20 years combined. You learn a LOT by just watching.
 
Mechanic has been very thorough and has checked all the different systems parked and driving. It seemed isolated and now the problem is back in the original spot. I walked the whole process through my fleet mechanic and he said the steps taken were the same steps he would have done. There is one more thing it could be before we either throw it on a trailer or drive under 60 mph the whole way.
 
@Dsnow9, I've got the same truck. I'd be curious to know what it is when you get to the bottom of it. I had an acquaintance experience the same thing a couple years ago. Can't recall what it was but was having the same symptoms where all the dash lights came on. I'll see if I can get any info.

The dash lights all coming on is just the tundra telling you it isn’t functioning right. The abs system shuts off automatically.

Symptoms and fixes, I’m sure I will miss a few but for the peanut gallery.

Under strain, 65mph and higher truck starts to shake and then check engine light comes on.

Misfire in coil 1 was the fault code.

I put in a new plug and coil and it tripped again.

Took it to the shop and they individually swapped plugs and coils still faulting coil 1.

Tested fuel pressure and all other diagnostics parked and driving. Nothing clear.

Swapped fuel injector from 1 to 7. 7 tripped.

Replaced 7

Test drove and everything was good.

I loaded it with all of my gear and made it to a pass and stepped on it. At this point I felt like it was in the clear. Then it started to shake and the censor went off.

I talked to my fleet mechanic and he agreed with the mechanic here in that the only other thing it could be without major issues is the crank sensor. It is a magnet and spring sensor and the guess is that it spring is worn out and not able to keep up with the truck at the higher rpms.

If the crank sensor doesn’t do it I’ll either be trailering it home behind a new truck or nursing it home and keeping it under 60 the whole way.

While I’m sitting here I just got a call from my mechanic and he let me know the big grapple truck that has been misfiring needs five figures worth to get back running.

It has not been a good year in the vehicle category for me.
